Devon / Re: PIKE family - Frome

Unless Walter was originally from Frome and not Bristol, maybe. I cannot really say unless i go further backwards on your line. As it stands currently, no, my PIKE family married into my family tree a bit further back and seemed to stay in Frome at that point. I'm still looking for John and Hester PIKE to trace even further back on this branch of my family.

I'm glad i could help.

Hi,

All guess work without the certificates, but it looks like your Walter John PIKE may have come from Bristol. Just had a look, there is a Walter John PIKE on the 1939 register with his wife, Marina C. and son, Roderick J. By this Walter was born 18 June 1905 and was a Postman.

I took a look in the marriages and a Walter John PIKE did marry a Marina Cissie GARDNER in 1930 in Frome, Somerset (her parish, born 1910). Then in 1948 a Walter John PIKE married an Iris PAYNE in Frome, Somerset.

Without certificates there is no telling if its the same Walter. The only Walter PIKE on the Birth index and of the same month/year was in Bristol.

I hope this helps,

L.

Somerset / Re: BURGESS of Frome

Matthew Burgess of Frome is my ancestor. He had an occupation of a scribbler or even clothmaker. His children even picked up much of the same trade. This as far as i know, correct me if i'm wrong,  is all related to being a cardmarker. Samuel unfortunately is proving a difficult one to track but i know a number of the family over the generations went to London. The problem is sorting out who is from whom.  ;)

Linda,

Sorry for the slow reply.

I unfortunately lost quite a bit in a flood so i'm slowly trying to re trace my steps with the family tree.

I'm not sure if i took a look at the Wiltshire side for this family. I know i looked all over for the marriage. As i said Marston Bigot has a few gaps in the registers. It is certainly worth a look.

Lyn.

msv- As far as i know the Marston Bigot PIKEs are not related to the Bristol ones. Though it wouldn't surprise me if they end up that way sooner or later  :)

Linda,

For John PIKE and Hester

Children:

Sarah baptised 13/7/1760 Marston
Tristeram baptised 4/4/1762 Marston. Married Anne in Wookey 11/4/1787
James baptised 18/3/1763 Marston. Married Martha in Marston 27/9/1790
Ann baptised 10/7/1768 Marston. Married William in Marston 30/6/1791
Henry baptised 30/91770 Marston. Married Sarah in Marston 20/6/1789
Hester baptised 5/9/1773 Marston. Died 5/12/1779 in Marston
John baptised 25/12/1775 Marston. Married in Marston Sophia 15/7/1828

These are all from the parish registers. James info is from both parish register and another who is researching the CREESE line (Martha)

I haven't been able to pin point John nor Hester baptisms to give their parentage nor the marriage. Gaps seem to be in the registers.

Eliza TUCKER baptised in Iffley to George and Hannah 5 June 1821.

Unfortunately there is also a burial for an infant Eliza TUCKER 17 July 1821. One can only assume it is her.

However, they seemed to of named another child Eliza and baptised her in 16 April 1826.
