Thank you - yes I am a member of the Yahoo groups Somerset family history as well as some of the individual hundreds groups.  They are excellent.

I still haven't managed to track down John and William although there is a possibility they may have come from Newton St Loe - unfortunately there are practically no transcriptions for this place even on FreeReg.  I will continue to search anyway.

Thanks again.
Regards
Rosie

Thank you everyone - I will contact Guinness Archivists and hope they can come up with some information.

Hi Sue

Also join the Frome Hundred as they have Mells records transcribed.  Sorry forgot to mention that!

Hi

There are a lot of Martins in the registers at Kilmersdon which is very close to Mells.

Check out the Yahoo Group for Kilmersdon Hundred (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kilmersdon/) which is free to join.

Somerset / Searching for CHISSEY/CHEDGEY

I am trying to trace John and William CHISSEY/CHEDGEY who both appear in Midsomer Norton after 1813, both marrying there in 1816 and 1813 respectively and both coalminers.

William was born c1792 and John in 1795 but where?  I have trawled through baptisms for all the surrounding parishes and have been gradually extending outwards, but so far to no avail.

They both appear as CHISSEY in marriage records, and also for the early baptisms of their children but later this becomes CHEDGEY.

Can anyone help to point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Is anyone going to this?  I would be very interested to know what archives they have and whether you can write to them for information.

I understand at least one of my ancestors worked for Guinness and would like to trace them in any records they have if possible.

Thank you

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Searching for Joseph SAGE - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 18 August 09 12:35 BST (UK)  »
My 2xggm Mary RIDDLE married Joseph SAGE in 1833 in Midsomer Norton.  I know he was born c1810 but I need to find his baptism and his parents and any siblings.  I have searched the MSN baptisms but can't find him so I assume he came from somewhere else.  Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Hi Patricia

Thank you so much - this is a huge help!

The only surprise is that Abraham was baptised in 1790 shortly after his parent's marriage.  His age always indicated a birth in 1788 - I suppose it is possible he was born out of wedlock and then once they married he was baptised?  If he was born in 1790 then his parents were cutting it rather fine!

Thank you again.
