Northamptonshire / William Underwood West Haddon

Hi.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has any information on William Underwood or his son Frederick Underwood.
William was a boot manufacturer and lived at Diamond House,West Haddon, and Frederick was a schoolmaster and lived at 14,Brewster Road,Leyton,Essex.
Both William and Frederick were named as executors in my G.G.Grandfathers will.
My G.G.Grandfather was Matthew William Jennings.
Matthew was born in Walsgrave On Sowe,Warks, but finally settled in Linby,Notts, where he was undermanager at Linby Colliery until his death in 1906.
I would like to find out if their was a link between the Underwood and Jennings families.
Regards.
Robert

Hi.

Derbyshire / William Jennings Shirebrook
« on: Monday 24 August 09 20:25 BST (UK)  »
Seeking any descendants of William Jennings.
William was my g grandfather,he was born in Foleshill ,Warwickshire about 1865.
He lived in Hucknall for a while, and married a Frances Newbutt of Hucknall.
He eventually settled in Shirebrook where he had a tailoring business.
In 1911 he was living at 134. Station Road. Shirebrook.
I assume this was also his business address.
William and Frances had 13 children, but only 6 lived beyond chilhood.
They were Percy(my grandfather)Muriel,Betrace,John,Evelyn and Muriel.
William I think died in the 1930`s.
Any information welcome.
Thanks,
Robert.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Alfred Jennings
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 10:25 BST (UK)  »
Seeking any information on Alfred Jennings.
Alfred was born at  Tibshelf, Derbyshire in 1872.
In the 1911 census it shows him living at 54. The Park,Woodlands,Nr Doncaster
I think this is possibly in the Adwick Le Street area.
His wifes` name was Elizabeth and they had a daughter Doris Hilda.
I think Alfred was a manager at Bentley Colliery in the 1920`s-1930`s.
Any info welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Skewy.
Thanks for the interesting reply.
I was going on information supplied by my Grandfather who had lived with his Grandfather Matthew William Jennings in Linby as a boy.
What I do know is Matthew farmed in Linby as well as being under-manager at the colliery.
The 1901 census is not very specific it just gives Matthews`address as Linby village.
I wonder if the house he lived in went with the job,or whether he actually owned it?
Thanks Again Skewy,

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Missing Halifax Street
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi Dave,
I was born on Gerrard Street in Halifax in 1952.
We then moved to Mixenden for about 2-3 years.
We moved from there about 1958 and went to live down Rochdale Road, just down from King Cross.
I know Boothtown well,my Grandad lived on Woodlands Avenue since the 1930`S.
When I was younger I spent many hours watching him play bowl in the park.
I now live in Elland.
