I have contacted West Sussex records office to help and advice ...will take them a while to respond due to the current circumstances

Hi
Thank you for your help and assistance.

The certificate that I received, apparently 02b/394, has the 'occupier' of the address down as registering the birth ...I wonder if the Mother did it first time around and included the father's name and it was registered a second time to effectively have him removed!!

Is there a way I could get to review the actual birth register myself?

Thanks Colin

That's a little strange the 02b 394 is the cert registered 7th July (June) ...yet your post suggests March ...the 02b 375 should be earlier (Mar) surely?

Hi,
I have just received a copy of the birth certificate for a Mary Gwendoline Davey born 21st Feb 1933 at 2 Upper Shoreham Road, Kingston by Sea from GRO. As expected there is no father but there is a registrars note saying"Previously registered on the 25th February 1933 at entry no 191". This certificate shows a registration date of the 7th July 1933, much later.
I would like to know what the earlier entry said and details so I can order a copy.
The district is Steyning, Shoreham and her mother was Marjorie Fanny Davey who went on later to marry my grand-father in Chiddingfold, Surrey.
Any help much appreciated ...its been a long standing family mystery

Thanks, but I thought the census records started post-1800?

I am interested in years prior to 1800.

In particular I'm interested in a John Butler, father of Edward Hunt Butler (b 1799)

Appreciated, Buffer
