I have recently found a connection to William Rutherford and Agnes Robson Rutherford. I don't have information on him, but she was born in 1849 to Elizabeth Robson & John Laidlaw.
From my information, she was a cousin to my great grandfather, Gilbert Robson

Harry:  I'm taking a chance on this.  I don't know how often you read it, but we seem to have the same family tree interests.

Since Roots Chat doesn't give out personal information, I don't know who I'm talking to.
I have all the printed records of all the items listed here, right to the address where Gilbert and Mary Belle Short lived in Galashiels before immigrating to Canada.

From what I have read, it is all correct.

As for George Robson, he did have an interesting life.  I have a picture of him with wife Lucy.
He apparently lied about his age to get into the service for WW1, then lied about it again to serve in WW2.  One note in my mother's list of family information was that he was wounded at Dieppe.
I can not find any service record or death information.

There seems to be a lot of information.  Some conflicting, but mainly the problem lies in people re-marrying and a lot of similar names.
Too many George, Gilbert, Adam & Archibald all living in the same area.  It also appears that in-laws were marrying.  The town couldn't have been very big.
I did visit Galashiels many years ago and got some info from the town hall, but only have one of them left.
That's the marriage certificate for Gilbert Robson & Mary Bell Short. Dec. 31, 1892. It shows his parents are George Robson & Isabella Lumsden.
Her parents were George & Elizabeth Short.
From my earlier note, Isabella Robson married Charles Short.

From my records, George m. Isabella Lumsden in 1864.  They had 7 children, Beatrice m. Hunter, Andrew, George twin with Archibald in 1870, Margaret Jan. 1872, Gilbert Nov. 1872, & Isabella m. Short.

No information confirmed but believe that some of them migrated to Canada around 1900.

That would be a negative.  From what I have gathered, my ancestor
Adam Robson would have been born around 1780.  It is possible that he had a sister Jean, but not in my records as yet.
It is a fairly common name for the area, but anything is possible if
there are records.

I have done some tracing of my family tree -
from Adam & Margaret, they had a son Archibald who married
Margaret Little.  They had 4 sons, Adam. John, George and James.
George married Isabella Lumsden.  They had several children, one of whom was my great grandfather, Gilbert.
Gilbert died approx 1954, and is buried in New Westminster, B.C.
Canada.
