Ah, thank you, Zefiro. They all make sense. So, is it the feminine -in ending, like arzt & ärztin (and equivalent to the Russian Romanov/Romanova)? I didn't know they did that with German names.

I note that you say in another post (in the Glamorganshire forum) that you assume your ancestor was transferred to Liverpool, but also that he ran away from a boarding school when he was 14. Could he have just run away from Cardiff to Liverpool? What makes you think he might have been 'transferred'?

The second may be 'to Homes 14.7.21'. Cardiff workhouse (if this is where we are) had cottages for children, the Ely Homes.

Some assumptions/guesses:
Like you, I think ‘Patron’ is a respectful title.

The bits I’ve translated as ‘son of’ and ‘daughter of’ seem logical, but the original literally seems to say ‘of the someone’ and I’m guessing the someone is the father. Maybe the squiggle after ‘del’ is an abbreviation of ‘padre’?
The word before the name of the baptiser may be ‘Don’ – a title apparently used for clerics.
No idea what LV is – maybe a region/parish.
Some of the name transcriptions are a bit dubious.

No idea what ‘Prep’ and ‘Can’ with the little superscripts mean – perhaps ‘can + co’ is short for canonico = canon.
If the baptism date is 12 October, the birth date would have to be earlier, so 27th September makes some sense, but I don’t know what the ‘deci + o’ means.

Anyway, this may not get you any closer to deciding which Zuanne is yours, but it was an interesting challenge!

I'm trying to work out the word/abbreviation after Mary Crowe's name. The list of names is from
an Irish RC Parish Congregational Record and includes bits of extra information about some of the people: age, marital status, where they emigrated to, etc. The entry for Mary seems to be the same as for the entry above, but crossed out (which doesn't help). I've included a larger chunk of the page for comparing entries. Some of the ones higher up look similar and seem to read 'gone'. Could that be right?
