After a bit more research on scotlands website and others I have found relevant info from the 1901 census and before.
I'm still having difficulty with the McBride Keatings side. For all I know he could have been adopted, etc I will keep looking however. I know that James Keatings was a protestant & Elizabeth was catholic and that they eloped to get married, but where I do not know.
I have got a family tree together on www Ancestry. co.uk of all the family members that I think I have found. Mcbride, Keatings, Tollan & Brownlow, so far got 81 members, but no mcbrides or keatings :-(.
are there any army sites I can check for details as in the photo he is wearing a uniform, it might give his parents names etc which I doubt.
