You could try e-mailing the Fife archivist andrew.dowseyATfife.gov.uk

Hi poppysmum,

Looked on SP but couldn't find a Peter Gard*ner dying in Midlothian in 1925.  There are 2 who died in 1928. Do you know his age, it would help to narrow down the search.

Kind regards,

Alison

Hi,

I don't know if you're aware that images of the OPRs are now available on the Scotlands People website. www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Unfortunately, there's no knowing how much info. is on them, some only give the names of the couple concerned, others give much more. It's pot luck, I'm afraid but worth a look.

Kind regards,

Alison

Hi Elaine,

Many thanks for looking.

The Finnick side was definately from Scotland. However, I know from the 1841 and 51 census Mary's father Philip was from Ireland, but as is often the case it doesn't say where.

I must admit it hadn't occured to me she may have gone to Ireland. Thanks for the suggestion.

Kind regards,

Alison

Hi Elaine,

Could you please look to see if there is a Mary Finnick in the Fife deaths abroad. Her m.s. was Rodgers. I can't find a trace of her in Scotland after the 1871 census. Also her son, Philip seemed to disappear so would appreciate if you could have a look for them both.

Many Thanks,

Alison

Hi Tam,

Was Mary shown as a widow on the 1861 census?
What was the census place?
Were the parents shown as deceased on Agnes' marriage cert?

Hi Jill,

My Robert's parents were Robert Plenderleith and Isabel Monroe. Robert was born 1809 St. Cuthberts.

However, I think the connection may be further back as I believe Robert senior's parents were Robert Plenderleith and Margaret Marr who had a son, Alexander christened 19.4.1778 in Liberton. Robert snr was born 11.4.1790 Liberton.

I haven't gone any further back with these as it's so difficult to be absolutely certain when there are no statutory certs. to confirm parentage.

If I come across any info. on Alexander I'll let you know.

Regards,

Alison

Hi Isobel,

If you go onto www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk you'll be able to find their marriage certificate which will give their parents details, and work back from there.
Regards,

Alison

Sorry, I see you've been given this info. on another thread
