Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Back of photograph
« on: Saturday 26 July 14 11:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm not related in any way to this family. I picked up the photo from a fair last weekend hoping to find a home for it.

Advancing on what you folks have said, I'm leaning toward it saying
"Uncle Will Bro to Matthew"
"W. Booth    JEH    29/8/27"

I assume the initials and date refer to who and when the photo was labelled.
The addition of the name "Matthew" could have been added to indicate which side of the family he belonged to.

Canada / Electoral Rolls?
« on: Thursday 29 May 14 17:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

Is anybody able to ascertain who lived at this address during the 1930', 40' and/or 50', please?

There are voters lists for Montreal floating around the internet, but Canadian addresses are a mystery to me. What's written here is not something I can Google.

Many thanks
Elliot

It looks like k  c b to me. If you google k c b and look at Wikipedia you can eventually see a list of every holder since 1815.  there are a lot ;D ;D ;D ;D

Cheers,

Indeed there are, but none with the combination of initials I propose. If indeed they are initials :-( ?? :-)

It's a shame I can't narrow down the list by decade. Could be a help.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Initials?
« on: Sunday 30 June 13 21:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks

Opinions on these initials/abbreviations please.

It looks like "Yours affectionately" (though written badly) with some initials under it which I believe are G.M.L. and under those I think it says K.C.B. (Knight Commander of the Bath?????)

All opinions most welcome

Regards
Elliot

Sorry, nothing.

Whoever can read the script will end up knowing more about him than I do.

I'll post on a military forum when next i have a chance. They may be able to tell me something about the insignia's.

I thought I saw 'of' and 'one' in there somewhere, but clearly coincidence! I was 99.9% sure it wasn't English as I couldn't read it, but I didn't stop me trying :D

Romance Language? My have to Google that term.

Cheers for your help.
