Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Woods of Stillington, N. Yorks.

Hi,
I have an ancestor called Mary Gibson who was born in 1812 and married a Thomas Wood.  Christopher was a popular name in the Wood family judging by the records.  Mary Gibson was born in Marton Lordship.  I'm afraid that I could not find an Ann.  I have a family tree on Genes Reunited if you are a member.
Hope this helps :-)
Mary.

Trying to trace a possible female relative born in Almelo, Holland during the WW2 likely between 1942 and 1943.  Anyone any idea where I should start looking?  I have a working knowledge of the language so should be able to cope.

Brilliant - Geordies are such a big-hearted lot!  Grant45 has come up trumps!  Many thanks.

Yes, Marbat, we must be distant cousins.  My great-grandfather was Thomas Gibson Usher.  I am delighted to at last find a living relative.  I have lots of information on the Ushers and a family tree published on Genes Reunited - are you a member?  I have a photo of Alfred Daulton who was a Sergeant in the Royal Artillery during WW1 and won a medal for bravery.  My Mother has the original Cordwainer's Indentures of our predecessors.  I would be happy to pass on any information you would like.  I can also put you in touch with two other distant relatives, one descended from Robert the Schoolmaster's father Jonathan and another from Robert himself.

On a recent archaeological trip to Hadrian's Wall, I took a little time out to photograph houses where my family were known to have lived.  Unfortunately, my elderly Mother failed to inform me of the house into which my Grandfather moved as a newly married man.  She only told me on the day I got home!  It was 28 Spring Bank Road, Jesmond and they moved there in October 1911.  You are all such a kind-hearted and helpful lot on RootsChat and I was wondering if there was an obliging Geordie living in Jesmond who could send me an e-photo of Number 28 as I will not be able to go to the North East in the forseeable future?  I would be so grateful.

Thanks, Minor.  I don't yet know how this William fits in with my lot but my Granny had a brother called William so there could be a connection.  Unfortunately, Wood is a fairly common name so one cannot make assumptions.  My Granny's family seem favour the names Thomas and Richard most with Thomas usually going to the first born.

Thanks, Joe - I've visited this one.  I'm married to a retired soldier so it was the first place I looked. :)

Many thanks to all the kind people who took the time and made the effort to help me.  My Granny was Mary (1886)!  Armed with this information, I can now try to find living relatives.  Does anyone know where I find information on WW1 and WW2 casualties?  It is more than likely that some Woods might have perished in either war.

I am researching the Woods of Stillington, N. Yorks.  I have the 1881 census but would appreciate earlier and later information.  They were builders in this village and also had an ale house at one stage.  They lived on the Green in a house imaginatively called 'Woodville'!.  I would also like to trace any ancestors of Mary Wood (nee Gibson) who was born in Marton Lordship, N. Yorks.  I have so far failed to trace her parents.  My eventual aim is to trace living relatives and would therefore like to trace descendants of Thomas Wood (born 1872). Richard Christopher Wood (born 1874), William Gibson Wood (born 1878) Lillian M. Wood (born 1882), Ernest D. Wood (born 1884) and Leonard Wood (born 1890).  Any information would be gratefully received.
