Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: The Payne Family
« on: Wednesday 13 May 20 22:40 BST (UK)  »
So updating my research in the last year, the following Essex Payne Family:

 John Payne NZ /
  George Wilfred Payne NZ /
Thomas Payne 1876 Taulau, Durham m in NZ /
John Sidney or Sydney Payne 1850 Copford, Essex m Ann Elizabeth Cuthbert/
George Payne 1821 Gr Coggeshall, Essex m Sarah Brown /

George Payne 1799 Icklgham, Suffolk, England m Lucy Smith /

I have been digging deeply and after a chance visit to the ERO in person and on line, I have found Parish registry records that show the following:

George PAYNE was actually born in 1814, Great Coggeshall
and his parents were most likely to be:
James PAYNE/PAIN B:1791 and Amelia FOSTER B: 1787. Both in Great Coggeshall.

Parish records for St Peter Ad Vincula, Coggeshall, Essex, have provided a wealth of information and are linked to many of this grouping for baptisms and marriages.

I have proven that George Payne did marry Sarah BROWN through all the GRO birth registrations for all the siblings of JOHN SYDNEY PAYNE.

But my question still stands, why is there NO birth registration for John Sydney Payne B: abt 1850 nor a sister, Emma Payne B: 1862?

Was he adopted? Were they both?

DNA is proving to have no matches amongst the PAYNE nor FOSTER line. Maybe I am wrong there too.

Anyway, hope all the Payne researchers are still digging and maybe a FOSTER researcher might chance upon this thread.

Cheers
Gaye

Thank you Jamjar
I agree with those notices. There was a letter dated 2 years later (1987) written by the son requesting a Service record for his father. These records for both father and son were found digitised on NAA.
So it is quite possible that he is still alive.
Thank you for your interest

Sorry, but could you please tell me what I need to do to change this or delete the post. I did not mean to offend anybody.
Thank you

Thank you for having a look. I had page 1 but didn't want to add it as it wasn't the focus of the question but you are absolutely correct in pointing out that he signed up for 6 years. So you are suggesting that he wanted EARLY discharge?

It would make sense as he had met someone.

Thank you for the naval base postings as well. It makes sense.

Do you know where else one might find more detailed navy personel records please?

Thanks
Gaye

Hi and hoping someone has a great knowledge of the Australian Navy in the 1950's.

Attached is a copy of the navy record for xyz - 1950-1956.
I am specifically requiring clarification between the time aboard the Penguin 5 Nov 1951 until his discharge in 1956.

I understand he was aboard the HMAS Penguin (became the Condamine) and sailed in Australian waters and off Korea until April 1953 when the ship returned to Sydney for a refit.

He applied for a discharge 25 Sep 1953 but it was denied. Why would that happen?

The records then show he was aboard the HMAS Kuttabul / Rushcutter from Jul 1953 - Sep 1954. I can't find any details about these ships at this time.

He was then finally FREE on 9 Oct 1956. What would he have done between Sep 1954 and Oct 1956?

Could some kind soul help clarify my interpretation please?
Thanks
Gaye

Hi
Good to see another Malcolm / Newman researcher. Welcome.

There actually is a lot of data on Ancestry about Rebecca Newman's family as it has been thoroughly researched at various times by a group of us. We were all brought up with various facts ie the fact that she had been apparently Jewish and that they had gone to India. The last one was from one of the 1st family trees posted online about 10 years ago. Both "facts" or assumptions have since been disproved. Believe me I wanted that bit of Jewish to back up the fact that I had "bunked" school on Jewish Holidays.

I am assuming that the Leonard you mention was Leonard M Carr, son of Grace Malcolm & John Bryan Carr, daughter of Rebecca and John Frederick Malcolm. If that is the case - excellent as I don't have any data for his specific line.

I go down the line of a brother of Grace Malcolm, John Alexander Malcolm. Other researchers go down the various sister's lines - Vida Elaine Malcolm, Florence Starling Malcolm and Blanche Mary Malcolm.

Anyway, happy to help out where you need it. My Ancestry Tree is under GayeNZ - Grieve Family Tree.

Cheers and good to meet you.
Gaye
