I've got my main tree and records on find my past and got an ancestry DNA done (or rather my father) for more matches. What is essential is to get your tree up on ancestry and link the DNA. When I get matches I check to see if they are active and then write to them for further information if I need it. I've been able to do a lot for free. If you don't have many records yet, it is a good offer, but if you have most of your records from elsewhere, I would try without a membership subscription. If you think you would like one later, wait for another offer. It depends a bit on your financial situation. kaysii

Hi,
Don't know if you have noticed, but the Hannah who was married to David Minns was probably living in 1841. She is living with a James and Elizabeth Morrison on Cross Lane, St George's Colegate. James Morrison married Elizabeth Minns in Heigham 17 Oct 1806.  I can't find a baptism for Elizabeth, but that may be because of Heigham records being incomplete. Hannah has an estimated birth of around 1758. There is a Hannah Marsh baptised in Hellesdon to parents Robert and Hannah Marsh 18 February 1759.  A Robert Marsh was married to a Hannah Piggin in Hellesdon 25 Feb 1758. He is a widower and farmer and dies in 1762. Hannah is from Bawburgh. Mary Minns, sister of Robert Marsh Minns (b1776 in Hethersett) was baptised in Bawburgh in 1778 so it makes me think that this could be the right Hannah)

A David Minns aged 84 was buried 13 September 1835 in Heigham, he was resident St Martins at Oak. He could be the David Minns born to John and Elizabeth Minns in Hethersett in 1755 baptised 5 September.  A John Minns from Hethersett married an Elizabeth Reynolds from Hethersett on 4 Sep 1736 at St Stephens in Norwich. They had several children thereafter in Hethersett: John, Elizabeth Robert, David Susan/Susanna, Esther/Hester born between 1737 and 1755

I think John Minns is likely to be the child of a John and Susannah Minns. I have not found a baptism for John but there are children, Elizabeth, Robert, David, Esther and Hannah born to them in Wymondham between 1713 and 1723. A Susana Scarling marries a John Minns 14 July 1711, St Stephens, Norwich. Maybe they were not of age and married in the city. They give their parish as Wootton which could either be Woodton in South Norfolk or Wootton near Kings Lynn.

There is an Elizabeth Reynolds born to a Robert and Mary Reynolds in Hackford near Wymondham, baptised 15 September 1717 This is not so far from Hethersett. As she would not be of age it may be a reason why they've got married in the city.  Hope this is of some help.

Hi,
Records in Heigham are a bit difficult as church records were destroyed in a fire. I know it doesn't help you very much, but I think the David who was married to Bridget was born 22 June 1815 to Robert Minns and Mary Kett and was baptised in Heigham. This would fit in with the census results for the couple in 1851 and 1861 which gives his birthdate at around 1816. I am sure it does not help you any further because the David who is married to Hannah is probably a relative (eg.brother) to Robert. David b. 1815 had a brother Robert Marsh born 1 April 1802. Robert and Mary were married in Heigham 19 October 1801. A Mary Minns dies aged 49 in 1829 which if she is the Mary Kett  would make her born about 1780.

There is another Robert Marsh Minns who was born in 1776 in Hethersett to a David and Hannah Minns. It is a good chance that he is the Robert who marries Mary Kett as the name Robert Marsh keeps appearing.  There is a Mary Kett born to a Hannah Kett in Heigham in 1780.

Hi

I guess my query with regards Karen's parents is related to how you can be sure that the Karen Nilsdatter who migrated from Sweden to Hurum is the same Karen who married Johan Amundsen in Oslo?

There are several Karen/Kaisa Nielsdatter or variants born in Sweden in Norway in the 1865 census none in Hurum.

With regards to posting links that don't disappear, when you open up the parish register page, there is a box bildeinformasjon with "ingen" set as a default, you can get permanent hyperlinks to appear either at the top or bottom by clicking on the relevant choice. The permanent links then appear and you should use these for posting.
Best wishes

Nils daughter was my GG grandmother Karen ( Kajsa) married in 14 Dec 1863 in Eidsvold to Johan Fredrik Amundsen and they had one daughter Anna Marie 28 June 1865..

I always thought (& was told ) Johan was the father of my G-grandmother Caroline Elise- born 19 July 1875 -June 18, 1876 in Gamle Aker kirke- But according to her baptism record and marriage record apparently her father was Ole Nielsen . Ole was born abt 1847 Hedmarken- address is given as Maridalsveien 84 in 1875

I have all Anna's family info but wish I could find more information about Caroline's father Ole Nielsen & his family too??

Hi, I've been trying to work out some of this. From the baptism of Caroline Elise we can see that he is the father and I guess the figures in the final column may be a birth year for Ole, but I cannot see any evidence of where he is from. There is an occupation I think for him, but I cannot make it out. Entry no.174
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5777&idx_id=5777&uid=ny&idx_side=-181
I think the address is where the family is living, Ole is not necessarily living there at the time. In the 1875 census Karen is living with both her children in Maridalsveien 86

From Caroline Elise's marriage record we learn that she was confirmed in Fet.
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5818&idx_id=5818&uid=ny&idx_side=-89 and that her father is Ole Nilsen. Before his name I think it is written Uegt which is unwed or it could be Ungk short for Ungkarl which means bachelor
The confirmation record is here
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6243&idx_id=6243&uid=ny&idx_side=-113
Here it states that the mother was married woman and the father a bachelor.
We cannot infer that he is present at the time of the baptism, wedding or confirmation.
To find Ole Nilsen in the 1875 census I would first try and find out what his occupation was to be able to find him. I would recommend contacting the Norwegian Transcription Forum on the Norwegian Digital Archives.
http://arkivverket.no/eng/content/view/full/629
If you send the link above and ask them to translate the entry it might help before trawling the unmarried men by the name of Ole Nilsen in the Olso area in 1875 with a birthdate of around 1847.

With regards Karen Nildatter's parentage what makes you think that her father is Nils Hanson?
She was actually married in Olso and not Eidsvold and she gives her father's name as Nils Nilsen.

You might have to go back to the Swedish records to see if there is a Karen born to a Nils Nilsen in the same time frame. I'm sure there are hundreds of parishes that you might have to search through though!
Good luck

Hello John,

You can find parish records online at familysearch. I've not found any transcribed records online. You will need to look under Happisburgh which is how you spell "Haisborough". If you want to find neighbouring parishes look at the parish maps at familysearch http://maps.familysearch.org/.

Europe / Re: Harold G Jorgensen

You will really need to get the marriage certificate and hopefully get his nationality, probably Danish or Norwegian. I looked up (with spelling variations) Harald Jorgensen in the 1900 Norwegian census as the middle name is not always recorded. There were 19 of whom two had middle names included, (they were not Georg). You would need to check parish birth registers of the others to see whether they had a middle name Georg. Another reason for getting the marriage certificate is to find out his father's name to find out if Harald was using a patronymic as a surname or taking his father's patronymic/surname.

I did look up a Harald Jørgensen born in Sems to a father who was a fisherman and was away in England, but he has no middle name on his birth record.

Here is the Harald Georg mentioned by Jorose in 1910

Here he is in 1900

There are quite a few Welsh crewlists online that might help. You can find some links to them here.

I think you'll find that the records for St Bartholomews were destroyed during the second world war. You could try and see if there are any relevant Bishop Transcripts from that time.
