Brilliant , thank you. Just found her father WIlliam died in 1915 in Retford, Notts so maybe Ellen came to visit  her sister Edith Ellis as she lived with her father.. I wonder if she came back in 1922 because Edith got married ? She was 22 in 1911 census. Seems unlikely with the war though.

That's interesting. Thanks for that info. It would be nice to go to Canada one day!
I think I saw that about Ellen visiting and I'm sure her father lived in Notts. can you find her returning as well? Unsure where you are getting your info but I am very grateful.
Thank you
Sharon

Could do with finding out their deaths as well. Trawled through Ancestry in local library yesterday but blank......I wonder if they came back to the UK to die?

How come they have a 1921 census out there but we can't see ours. Frustrating!

Thank you. We think Charles was a waiter on Canadian Pacific and that's how they came back to the UK. It must have been so expensive but that's wrong because on the 1921 census he was a chauffeur and she was a wife. Plot thickens.... ???

Good point. Ellen the gt gt aunt was from Yorkshire and husband Charles was from Isle of Skye so why Hitchin? It's all a bit odd as somewhere there is an adopted baby as well and a dead one too!

Bit more info for you all, Ellen was a domestic servant and had a baby in 1905 but had him adopted we think....difficult to find out? She then went off to Canada in 1911 as a domestic and we found ages ago that she had another baby who died in Canada with Charles?
We moved house and have lost some stuff including this record and now cannot find it again.
Don't remember if baby was even Charles's or when it was born. I think Ellen was a bit of a rum one!!

Thanks Rosie, I thought the same about the house.
Really need someone to look at directories from 1939 and find out who lived there.
The plot thickens ???
