Hi Dathai, thanks so much for taking the time to post all that info.  I'll sit tonight and go through the links.  So helpful of you :)

It was very sad researching Nichlolas and his family.  There were so many premature deaths, due to "the consumption".

From what I remember, Catherine's Mother, Hannah Cleary, took Nicholas and the kids in when she died but Nicholas died soon afterwards.  I didn't know about Jim, only the girls.  It's a shame they were split up but I can imagine it would have been hard for her looking after all three of them.

I've yet to find out what eventually happened to Hannah.  Did Mary Ann bring Jim up?

I have Nicholas's father, Daniel, as born in Wexford but it's been a few years since I done the research and it's a bit hazy.  I'd love to share our tree with you.   I'll pm you.

Hi Nicholas, thanks for getting in touch, it's very nice to "meet" you, my husband says hi :)

He is decended via Nicholas' eldest daughter Bridget 1906 - 1971 and her son James 1927 - 2002

We have Nicholas' son James 1908 - 1910 on our tree so I'm guessing they must have had another child James who we don't have and he would be your father?

I love when we find a connection :)  Are you in Glasgow too?

Armed Forces / Royal Navy Service Record Help Please.
« on: Tuesday 22 August 17 18:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks, I'm not really clued up on service records and hope someone can just confirm that I am on the right track.

On this service record, the column headed "Ships' Names" lists each entry as "Pembroke", am I right in thinking that this is a Naval Base of sorts and not the actual vessel name as there is no mention of HMS Galatea, which I know he was aboard at the time of the 1871 census.

The next column is headed "NO" which I assume is the ship number.  I have found a website for Mercantile Ships that allows me to enter the ship's number and it returns the ship name but can't seem to find one for Royal Navy Ships.  Does anyone know where I can get that information?

Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

Thanks Forfarian, that's what I think too.  They have produced proof of marriage for Agnes' baptism.

You guys are fantastic, thanks so much.

I saw Agnes' birth on family search but didn't make the connection with the date.  This would confim that the actual ceremony took place in Canongate, Edinburgh so at least one of them must have been living there at the time.  The name Agnes also gives me a possible link to Alison's mother that I've been looking at so small pieces of the puzzle are getting closer to fitting.

Thanks folks.

Trish, I noticed this on the original document, it has both dates.  At first I thought the 1806 date was for the record above but then noticed there was one below it too.  Here's a clip of the entry with a bit of the one above and below.  I think the marriage took place in 1805 but was entered here in 1806 as each entry has the date above it.
