Hi,
William Card Snr. was also my Gt, Gt Grandfather, My Gt Grandfather was his 3rd son, John Card. Based on the 1851, 1861 & 1871 Census he was a policeman in London. By 1881 he was retired on a police pension and living in Wedmore, Somerset where he died in 1900.
It seems that he appeared as a witness at the Old Bailey:

I have his wife's given name as Eliza (b1825) and his children as William (b1850), Charles Fredrick (b1854), John AS (b1857) and Eliza Charlotte (b1859)
