Hi all and thank you for this
Camberwell is the district that covered Peckham at the time.  I had a look at the link for Nunhead cemetary and oit seems like the most local one to Peckham.  They also have a "Friends of Nunhead Cemetary" with a link for gravesearches which directs you to Southwark council so looks like I will be headed for a day trip to London as they charge 18 quid to search for a plot, apparently I can search myself in person for free :)
Thank you again xx
The links to the info on rootsweb was also very interesting and have picked up a few bits as well :)

Hi All
Not quite sure where to stick my request for advice/guidance/help?

Two ancestors gt grandmother and gt gt grandmother both died in Peckham but I am battling an infinate brickwall in trying to track down where they were buried.

Jessie Matilda Messervy died aged 85 on 20 Aug 1950 in Peckham (Gairloch Rd) and I am also intrigued in corset making history as according to 1911 census she was a corset maker

Lilby Myrtle Merrick (other first name variants are Sylby, Silby, Lily and as per her death certificate Sylvia) died from TB on 17 Aug 1923 aged 35 also in Peckham (I believe Gairloch Rd)

I have tried other sites and meet up with a big fat "unsuccessful search" and now I am thinking local churches, cemetaries and so on.  The church where Lylby married was St Judes but has been demolished but did not take buriels.  Not a Londoner myself so wondering if anyone has any pointers as to where I should be aiming my search please?

I am in and out on school run so will have answers to any questions if any as soon as I can attach myself to the PC

Thank you all in advance - these two ancestors are truly beneath my skin

Lancashire / Re: St Johns Preston Lancs (1816)

Hi John
Nothing like hard evidence to satisfy our skeptical minds hehehe!  It would be far to easy to accept the work of others but it's nice to understand the history and sources.
John Solomon eh?  He is a man of mystery, there is a fair bit about his son I believe from recollection on the lancs library newspaper archives (have printed it all out) but trying to track John Solomon is a challenge.  I am looking (well trying to in my novice way) to track down a baptism for him on the lancs parish records but am feeling a roadtrip coming up.  The Gardner side is my direct line so just want to get back as far as I can.  Plus I would like to satisfy my own curiosity about Ann Skinner - is she the right one to lead us to blue blood or is she another Ann Skinner?  I even researched the children of the infamous king, he had 9 kids and the tree I saw showed 30 by which point I got bored of counting so really am not convinced... hopefully I will be convinced one day
How about you?

Hi JRob
I have  acopy of the marriage licence now which is quite good .  Mary Ann Newton Haydon is my 3rd Great Grandmother.  I've seen the baptism record on FamilySearch and wonder how to get a copy of the original document?
A lot of folk tell me that there is a link through to William the Conquerer on Mary Ann's mother's side.  I am informed her mother was Ann Skinner but want to try and track this so I can see the connections?  Am I just making life harder for myself but where is the fun in this if I can't get to rummage in cenetaries and records :o)  Love sharing tips and learning more though so tips/pointers are always good.  Just finding the link to good old Willie the Conq hard to believe.
Maybe a trip to Devon is needed though I am still looking for Mary Ann's husband's ancestry as well.  Newton is an unusal middle name and why did she come all the way from Devon to Preston?  Oh the mystery.....

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / BAPTISM John Roderick JONES Ffestiniog 1859
« on: Sunday 24 June 12 18:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi There
I am stuck with my ancestor John Roderick Jones who was born 26 Oct 1859.  A family member provided me with this info but knew no more.  I jnow from what I am told that he was born in Ffestiniog and from the BMD indexes I have 5 possible John Jones born in that quarter.  From his marriage certificate I have his father's name - also John so I am wondering if there may be a baptism record available?
Having three sets of John Jones is providing rather a challenging brick wall :-[
Many thanks in advance
Marina
