Northumberland / Dawsons of Durham
« on: Saturday 08 November 14 01:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Hope someone can help. I am trying to find the missing piece of my Dawson family. Hugh Dawson was the son of Oliver and Jane Dawson. Oliver born 1792 Allendale  and Jane 1806 Shotley
They had Hugh who was born in 1829.His sister Hannah emigrated to the States with her husband George Herron and his 2 sisters Jane and Elizabeth along with youngest brother Oliver (My G G grandfather)and their 2 husbands emigrated to NZ there is no record of what happened to Hugh after Jane and Elizabeth emigrated which was about 1860 .In the 1851 census his occupation is coke burner. The family were living at Kenton Durham at this time. He was 22. I have found a marriage record of a Hugh Dawson marriage in 1862 in Hexham to a Elizabeth McGregor or another name of Tamar Dickinson and I know Hexham is an area where my Dawson Ancestors lived .Another census record is of a Hugh and Elizabeth living in Staffordshire. in 1871 and occupation is Coal miner . I am assuming Coke burner and coal miner are a connected occupation. Just unsure if this is the Hugh that I am looking for as it has got Staffordshire as place of birth but his age at time of census matches. Hope this all makes sense. I know what has happened to all the siblings except this one. I am wanting to find the final chapter of this generation of Dawson's Thanks for any help Hereford

Hey thank you Padma  for your information. She was my Grandmothers cousin and I heard about her a bit over the years. But now my Grandmother is gone so have the stories. If you have any other info about her or photos I would very much like anything. I am wanting to put a family history book together for my children and any other info would be great. She never had children (or so I believe)so to have a few pages about her keeps her story alive. I was very impressed  to read what she had achieved for the women of the area .If you want to send me any info Padma I can PM my email address to you Thanks Hereford

United States of America / Irish minister in Nth Dakota
« on: Monday 04 March 13 02:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my G Grandfather Thomas Edward Turner who with his wife and family arrived in Ellis Island 1908 and traveled to Mohall  North Dakota.According to the Ellis records they were going to stay with a Rev W J Walker.Where would I be able to locate records of him in that area as i understand from Family Stories that he ministered in a German settlement . My Grandmother records this as Minnesota. Also would there be any record of Thomas been badly burned in a fire and having to go back to Ireland . Is there an old newspaper site that I could access for that time in the USA? many thanks Hereford.

bgoodman Thanks for your reply I think that I will have to look at baptism records now that this may possibly be a connection. My Winnifred would have been 53 at the time of Mary Ann kings birth. She is quite difficult to track down in Australia where she went. There is a branch of the Honan family who she married into in Australia. I am thinking that someone may have more info on the Honan family of that time and may perhaps have some info on Winnifred herself. I cannot find a death record  either for her. There is very little about her at this stage. Thanks Hereford

Thanks for the information. I have the information on the ship they came over on . What I am looking for now are leads that will take me to who the Honan's were in Ireland and hoping to find information on their Parentage. Irish records northern and southern (I am also researching northern Irish History as well)seem to be very hard to find. Hereford.
