Hi Monica,

Darn it. I was hoping Peter Thomson had died after 1855 so i would be able to find out more about him and his parents. See i have found a possible birth in 1790 to a Neil Thomson and Janet McKerrall but i was never sure.

Do you know where the births would have been registered then, if not in the Established Church of Scotland?

Argyllshire / Margaret Thomson

Hello,

I'm looking for help tracing the siblings and father of the above Margaret Thomson. She was born around 1833 in Kilcalmonell (as it says on the census'). She dies in 1899 in Campbeltown leaving behind her Husband Hugh McCook who later passes in 1907.
On Margaret's Death Certificate is reads her Parents are Peter Thomson (Seaman - Deceased) & Flora Hamilton (Deceased). Her Son Hugh registers her Death. I have been able to find the Death of a Duncan Thompson in 1862 in Kilberry, Argyll. His parents are listed as Peter Thompson (Herring Fisher - Given as Living) & Flora Hamilton (Living), his death is registered by Flora Currie - Cousin. Flora Thomson nee Hamilton dies in 1867 in Campbeltown and she is the widow of Peter Thomson. Her parents are Archibald Hamilton & Ann Turner. Her Daughter Catherine Thomson registers her death.
Here are my dilemma's.
Peter must have died between 1862 and 1867 unless there was a mistake on Duncan Thompson's Death Certificate and Peter had died previous to his son, but I haven’t been able to find a Death for Peter between those dates.
I can’t find a birth for Catherine Thomson, the daughter who registered Flora Thomson nee Hamilton’s death in 1867. For that matter I can’t find the birth’s of any of Peter & Flora’s children in Argyll or anywhere else.
The census’ on Ancestry are also proving difficult for me to find any evidence of the family as a whole. I have found Margaret Thomson and Duncan Thomson In 1841 living in Lochkiernanbeg, Kilcalmonell with their Grandfather Archibald Hamilton. Duncan is 5 and born in Argyll. Nancy (Margaret) is 8 also born in Argyll. No 1851 census have I been able to find for the family.

If anyone could help me find Peter Thomson and the births of his children to Flora Hamilton I would be chuffed to bits as Peter has been very much a mystery to me for a long time now.

Thankyou,

Keelan

Hi Elaine,

Yeah i do have the certificate for Charles, he was my 3x Great Grandfather. The father Daniel was born in Renfrewshire to Duncan McCormick & Alice Dillon, his wife Helen Boyle was born in Ireland to John Boyle & Mary McCartney. Daniel & Helen were Married in Glasgow thankfully so i was able to get their marriage certificate. I was just scouting around in the hope someone else was doing the same tree, seems a very lonely tree in my family, think im the only one researching it!

Hello both!

The name James Paton McCormick doesn't ring any bells in my Tree sorry. Then again there were so many McCormick's or McCormack's living in Renfrewshire that it could well be possible. All of my McCormick/mack's were from Ireland, possibly Co. Antrim. What were the parents of James Paton McCormick called?

Daniel McCormick is a very prominent name in my Tree. I have had a look at the Inverclyde BMD website and like you said, there are so many of the McCormicks especially i couldn't see any of mine though at the moment, i think i would need to take a closer look at it to see if there were any matches.

The family im looking into is that of either Duncan McCormick and Alice Dillon and Daniel McCormick & Helen Boyle. There could well be many other McCormick's related to these couples i have not yet found.

Hello  :D

I'm just wondering whether there is anyone else researching any McCormick's or McCormack's from either Greenock or Eastwood between the dates of 1800 and 1881?

Argyllshire / Donald McKenzie 1820 - ?
« on: Friday 17 December 10 00:31 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for any infomation on Donald McKenzie bapt. 7 October 1820 in Arinagour, Isle of Coll. Son of John McKenzie (Pensioner & Crofter - born Inverness-shire) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Sutherland of Canongate, Edinburgh.

I'm almost certain that Donald Married Mary McKinnon on 23 January 1850 on Coll and have found them in 1851 Living in 12 Grisapool, Tyree & Coll with Mary's Father Lachlan McKinnon. Donald's occupation is Master of a Tradings Mack (Whatever that may be). Mary McKinnon was born 1823, Isle of Muck and her Occupation is given as a Sea Captains Wife. Does this have some connection with a Master of a Tradings Mack???

Donald's father John dies in 1857 and Donald certifies the Death with his "X" mark showing that he was present. However, i cannot find Donald & Mary in 1861, or find a Death for Donald between 1857 & 1861 nor for Mary, nor can i find any children born to Donald & Mary after their Marriage. I haven't been able to find any emmigration records for them either. I am descended from Donald's older brother John and there was one definate other brother, Allan and a possible brother, George. Unfortunately i haven't been able to trace family from either Allan or George so im hoping Donald may be able to bring me some more McKenzie's!

I'd appreciate any help!  :)

Perthshire / Mustard / Ogilvy
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 00:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  :)

I have found the Baptism record for my 5x Great Grandmother Elizabeth Ogilvy on 11 February 1760 in Clunie, it reads - "Ronald Ogilvy in Milltown of Cluny had a child in fornication with Margaret Murray baptized Elizabeth". Does this mean that Elizabeth was Illegitimate? This would make sense as i can't find a Marriage for Ronald & Margaret nor any other children from that union.

Elizabeth Married James Mustard though i cannot find their Marriage. James, their son, was born 1 August 1779 in Methven, Perth and died 15 June 1867 in Inveresk, Mid Lothian. James Mustard was born around 1754 in Perthshire. Unfortunately i can't find any other children to James & Elizabeth/another Marriage for either Ronald or Margaret/the parents of James Mustard who Married Elizabeth.

James Mustard 1779 married Anna Crichton on 30 October 1803 in Clunie, but what i find strange is that they dont have their first child until 1810, and no others can i find before that time. their children -

Robert Graham Mustard 1810 - 1819
Thomas Graham Mustard 1812 - 1881 (i dont think he ever Married)
James Mustard 1814 - ? (Cannot find Marriage or Death - Would appreciate any help with this)
William Mustard 1817 - 1860
Isabella Graham Mustard 1820 - 1907.

I have no idea where the Graham Name comes from as i cant find it on either the Mustard or Crichton side. I've also been wondering just how common a name Mustard is in not only Perthshire but in Scotland as a whole - it doesn't sound very Scottish to me. Any help with its origins?

If anyone could help me with anything i would really be grateful!

Thankyou

Any chance you can see the death for Eleanor Morris? I can't seem to find it or her in a census.  :)
