Hi Everyone,My main area is England.Shropshire is where my Grans family came from but with a surname like Groom there are litterally hundreds!!!!!My Grandads line  are in Staffordshire and yet again his surname Pye,Hundreds!!!!!!My fathers, Hartlepool area,Sanderson,yet again loads of them.Found out grandads sister went to Australia,so got work to do there and grans brother went to Canada,but sadly died before his wife got over.I love it when you find something or someone you never knew existed it gives me a buzz..... :-* :) :-* :)

Many thanks Jorose,I found that info out after I'dput the message on.JDC,I've found a descendant of John Groom on Genes and seemingly he died before his wife could join him.But no more info.I've heard of Land Grants were available in Canada around that time could he have taken one of them and moved further afield????

His name was John Groom,registered June qtr 1893 ,(freebmd)sorry don't know his exact birth.He was born in Moreton Say, Shropshire,England.He married a Lily Bailey,September qtr 1923(waiting for marriage certificate to come).I honestly don't Know if she went with him!!!!!As I said before I've only got limited access to some sites so don't really know where else to start.

Many thanks for your help Tressle.I printed off the Transcript of one who was born the same year as my ancestor,it's calculated by his age.It tells port of Departure,where bound,Pasenger destination,ships name,Masters name and steamship line.The only thing it doesn't tell is address of passenger,etc.I only had limited access so couldn't find more out. :( :(

Hi everyone.Could someone please help.I have a name in my research that could have emmigrated to Canada around 1920-1925.How do I find out for sure that it is actually my ancestor?Have been on FindMyPast passenger list found several with the same Surname and some with same birth year.Family stories also say he died before his wife could join him.Where would I go now to find out more info and to make sure he is my anccestor? Many thanks in anticipation.

I got one for Christmas "How to trace your family history on the internet" published by Readers Digest.It  starts you off from scratch and also comes with a cd!!It's helped me a lot with being a total beginner!!!!
