The Common Room / 41 people in one grave??
« on: Wednesday 05 January 11 01:06 GMT (UK)  »
I've just been searching the Manchester City Online Burial Records and was quite shocked to find that out of 10 graves on the page I was looking at (for Harold Davies), 8 of them contained over 20 unrelated people, and one as many as 41!  I'm very curious to know how that was possible?

Hi Ruth,

Many thanks for your speedy reply.  However, I guess he isn't mine, after all.  My ancestor arrived much earlier and was already raising a family in Liverpool by 1852.

Thanks for your help, anyway!

The Common Room / Alien Arrivals Help
« on: Monday 13 September 10 18:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

My 2xgreat-grandfather arrived in England from Rovigno in the early 1800's.  Can someone kindly help me out with any details for "Mr. Benussi, arrival - Dover, England".

Hi Bobbie.

Welcome to Rootschat!

Joseph Bastow was my step-grandmother's grandfather, so not in my direct line, but I would be happy to share what I know about him with you.  However, I believe you have to make at least three postings before we can PM - send private messages to each other.  (See "How to use Rootschat" in the "Beginners" section.)  When you have done that, please feel free to contact me again.

Cheers!

Lancashire / Re: Varley WHITEHEAD - Burnley area
« on: Saturday 31 July 10 18:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi Mike,

The name rang a bell, and on checking my tree I see that the Varley Whitehead you mentioned in your first post, born in Burnley Dec Q 1904 and died in Burnley in Dec Q 1950 was married to a relative of mine, Susannah Travis, in Jun Q 1934 at Christ Church, Ashton-under-Lyne.

I thought it was an unusual name, so I'm surprised there are so many of them!

Cheers!

Thank you Ann, but I've already trawled through the MIs on this site with no luck, unfortunately.

I live in Canada and am hoping that anyone who may be visiting Ford Cemetery in the near future could do a lookup for me, please?  I'm looking for any Benussi's or Bontempo's, who were RC, living in Liverpool, and are possibly buried there.  (There weren't many of them, and they were all related.)

Thanks in advance.

There's a picture of a gypsy biscuit tin made by Huntley & Palmer on this website:

Could it be the one you're looking for?

Thanks, Stan, I knew you'd come up with the goods!

So that means that even if she was absent for seven years, as long as he knew she was still alive he couldn't legally remarry.  Not very fair, is it?
