Lancashire Lookup Offers / Re: Ford & Yew Tree Cemetery Records

Yes, that's my problem - the papers I've had access to end at 1900, so I'm hoping more recent newspapers will be put online soon.

His name was unusual, and I've found a multitude of spellings for it!  Thanks again for checking all the variations.

Thank you so much for your help.

The burials you found are all related to the John Benussi I'm looking for, who was 91 when he died in 1904.  The first John was his nephew, aged 63.  The second was his son John, aged 19 (so my John must have been the deed holder), and the last two were his grandchildren.  So it's strange that "my" John is not with them, isn't it?  His 3rd wife, Isabella, who also died in 1904, was buried at Anfield Cemetery, Liverpool, with her adult daughters, but he's not there either!  He was a very wealthy man when he died, so he must have a headstone somewhere!

Anyway, I'm very grateful to you for checking.

Cheers!

Hi Marienne,
Could you please see if there is a John (Giovanni) Benussi, who died 25 May 1904, buried at Ford or Yew - or if there are any other Benussi burials there?
Thank you for your kind offer.

Thank you, Sue.  The photo is quite clear, although I was really hoping for his first name, as I'm not certain that he's mine.  (I'm pretty sure he is, though.)

And thanks also for the additional information, KM.  From what I've read, the Battle of Spion Kop was an absolute catastrophe!

Merry Christmas to you and all the helpful Rootschatters!

Hi Sue,

I just noticed this post, and if your offer still stands, could you please look and see if there is a Private J. SWINDELLS on the Spion Kop memorial?  I would like to confirm his first name (Josiah), which isn't given on the website I found.  It shows he was killed at Spion Kop on 24 Jan 1900, Natal Field Force, Royal Lancashire Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Number 5385.

Thanks!

Hi Tim,

It's wonderful to find a new cousin!  Thank you for outlining the details of your Pryce/Price family, which all ties in with what I have found.

I'll try to send you a PM now so we can exchange email addresses and further info.

Cheers!

Hello Tim,

Sorry to say that since I first posted this 7 years ago, I've not had much luck either!

It's interesting that we may be related, though.  I'm descended from their son Ernest George.  Which of their children was your ancestor?

I see this is your first posting, so if you'd prefer to send me a PM (private message), you will need to make 2 more postings on RootsChat first (those are the rules).

Looking forward to hearing from you!
