Kirkcudbrightshire / Young famly, Castle Douglas.
« on: Monday 15 February 10 22:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anyone please advise on where the Young family resided in Castle Douglas during the early 1800s?    Father and son, both named William, were wine merchants in C.D. where son, William, was also a magistrate and provost.   Any info. on where their shop may have been will also be of interest.    Also:- was there a house named "Glenshinnoch" in the town or area?..... from where did the family originate?..... was there a link to Sir William Douglas?    All probably a tall order but many thanks anyway.
Bob.

Hello from a new member........... looking for additional info. on Samuel & Hugh McClymont,  both described as merchants in Girvan in the late 1700s/early 1800s.    I have info. back to Sam. m. to Agnes Davidson.   Sam died c. 1819/20 & I would dearly like to locate Hugh together with their parents.    Of particular interest would be to learn if their mother, or any other female member/ancestor, was a Douglas, probably from Wigtownshire.
Any info. on this family would be very welcome.
Regards.........Bob.

Hi John,
Just picked-up your query.    Are you aware that two Leiper brothers farmed Airyhemming until relatively recently following the death of their father there?    At least one remains in the Wigtownshire area.
Regards......Bob.

Hi Mary.......I notice in you reply to Colin of 04, April, '09,  a reference to William Henry as an owner of the above premises and wonder if you may be able provide me with any background information on William?
Many thanks.....Bob.

Hi Steve.....Many thanks for your kind welcome and prompt response.   Yes, I do have the will but it doesn't tell me a lot.
My gt. grandfather, Charles Dalrymple was a Gatehouse man - as was my father and his ancestors, Henry's in Lagg Farm - and I have his lineage (more or less) as far back as Thomas Dalrymple, husband of Grace Hughan.
I always wondered if Thomas and his son might take me further back.
I'm looking forward to becoming involved with the Group and hope to join-in as much as possible.
I'm also a fairly regular visitor to Gatehouse (only 50 miles away) and continue to be drawn there when I remember good holidays at Lagg with my gt. uncles, William and Sam.
Kind regards........Bob.
