Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Birth lookup - Deal - Catherine Horton
« on: Friday 20 January 12 18:57 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for this AJ.  It does all seem to tie in right.  The reason I asked about the Turnpikes was because Ann Maria's sister and husband were tollgate keepers, so I hope maybe they were at Deal in 1857.  If Robert was indeed in India at that time that would account for the birth taking place where it did.  A lot of speculation I know, but hopefully I can find their marriage somewhere.

HELP!

In desperation on this one I requested a copy of Catherine Miller's Birth Certificate to see if there was any connection.
There are so many coincidences on this that I think she must be the right Catherine, but it means that Ann Maria had an unknown 3rd marriage to Robert Miller.  He is shown on the B/C as a Corporal in the 79th Regt (which appears to be 79th Foot Cameron Highlanders).  I have found reference to him in medal list for Indian Mutiny.
Ann Maria is shown with maiden name Andrews (which was her original name) living at Spring Gardens, Wincheap Street, Canterbury.
I have searched for a marriage for these two but can find nothing anywhere.
Catherine is shown as having been born at Turnpike House, Deal - in 1861 she was at Turnpike House, Bells Lane, Sandwich(!) with mother (then a widow) and aunt.
Does anyone know whether there 2 Turnpike Houses - one in Deal and another in Sandwich - or whether this is probably the same address.
Any assistance on any of this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for that Suz.

It has somewhat thrown a spanner into the works as I'm not now sure that the people I found in 1881 are related.  I have only just started to research this line and am having trouble finding much about James Hayward's family.  All I know at present is that he married Lucy Jane Collard (in my tree) and had 3 children Arthur James (b1870), William (b1872) and Edith (b1876).  I was hoping to go back a bit further on his line.  It looks as I need to do a bit more delving.

Many thanks for the assistance.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Census lookups HAYWARD

Could anyone kindly assist with Census lookups in the name of Hayward.
I have 2 sons George (b1839 Cranbrook) and James (b1846 East Ashford) - believe James born in Brabourne.
Mother's name Elizabeth (b1816 Brabourne).  Father's name James (birthdate unknown).
I have Elizabeth (a widow) living with George in 1881 Census, but would appreciate earlier Censuses to establish any other family members.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Grimshaw Murder in Epping Forest c1928

Thank you everyone for your assistance with this.  It looks as if "word of mouth" got it wrong in this instance - the info I had came from a late uncle and had been told to him by his late aunt.  Whether the murder victim was related in some other way I will have to investigate.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Grimshaw Murder in Epping Forest c1928

Does anyone know where I might be able to find out any information about a murder which supposedly took place in Epping Forest c1928 (or anytime during the 20s).  The victim's surname was Grimshaw, unsure of his christian name - I only have very sketchy information at present.  There were 4 brothers in total (Ernest, Bertram, Arthur & Randolph), one of whom was the murder victim, another was believed to have been a Metropolitan policeman.
Any ideas at all on how I may be able to trace this info would be appreciated.
