Scotland / Re: How to get a death extract

Thanks for this.
I have been searching for Brown and Elizabeth Herriot.  He died in 1862 under his birth name but the 1851 census record must relate to him.  Why the name William, well, I guess we'll never know.  It's also perplexing (to me anyway) that her death was recorded under her maiden name.

Appreciate your help.
I did pay to download the death record for the earlier detail but it didn't provide more detail so I don't know how best to go about getting the burial extract.  Would it exist pre 1855 ?  If not, I guess it's going to have to stay as the brick wall.

The children I'm aware of are Janet Herriot b1817 and John b1819.   (Some ancestry trees have a William b1817 but I need confirmation on that one).  The death extract for Janet only gave me Elizabeth's maiden name.

Scotland / How to get a death extract
« on: Wednesday 04 September 19 23:42 BST (UK)  »
On the Old Parish Records, I have found the 7/4/1853 death of Elisabeth Hunter, wife, (although that's her maiden name), on the Scotlands People website alongside the name of her husband James Brown Herriot.  (Inveresk and Musselburgh). They were both living at Smeaton Shaw, listed ages 63 and 65.

Because I haven't been able to locate a birth or marriage record to determine her parents, I don't know how best to get an extract if indeed one exists.

As her parents are my search objective, I would really appreciate some help in determining the best way to move forward with this.

cheers, PippaR

Thanks for some input.
I won't pursue this further so I will mark this as Topic Completed.

You are right that I had not observed the N over the birth location in the 1841 census.
However, when doing a search for the children I found a baptismal record 1 Jan 1828 at St Dunstans, Stepney for Christiana Bulman to parents John and Elizabeth.  Baker.
All adds to the confusion I'm afraid.

Would appreciate some input into locating a birth record/location for my ancestor John Bulman/Bullman/Bullmin as this has become quite the brick wall to further research.

Born about 1803 Sussex, died in 1851 Ancoats, Lancashire.  Death cert states age 48.
Occupation:  Baker.  Living in Ancoats in 1841.

I have his marriage cert to Elizabeth Jarvis, 23 January 1825, Stockport Cheshire.

The 1841 census records state his children were born in Middlesex (Christiana, Susannah, Andrew, Robert).

(I found another Bullman family (printers) in Ashton Under Lyne, but I don’t believe there is a connection.

Living in Australia has made it quite difficult for me to get my ahead around the locations so any suggestions would be most helpful, thank you.

Yes girls, you're absolutely correct.  I guess my conclusion was tiredness running amuck.

This Daniel Hayes seems to have been important in their lives, perhaps a defacto father.
(I came across a Mary A Hayes boarding with the Kelly family.  Richard’s first wife Bridget was a Kelly).  Coincidences stirring the pot.  Fortunately I’m happy to leave this puzzle for a later ‘amusement’ as my focus is mostly with the Prescott line.

PS.  The 11 year old Elizabeth you mentioned with Yates in 1871 also was a good find by you as I had recorded her as 10 year old instead of 10 month old in 1861.

I don’t believe I would have reached any of these conclusions without your help, so thanks again, it’s worked out really well.

Cheers

Sorry for delayed response but it's taken me some time to come to a conclusion which, has in large part, been due to your input.  Also, there is a time difference between Australia and England!!

I looked at another sibling of Richard Prescott, that is Ann, who married George Meeds in 1862.  Witnesses were Alice Prescott and William Milner.  Even though the only marriage record I can find for Alice and William isn't until 1890, the 1881 census has their children’s named Milner.
My belief is that William Milner and Ann Prescott, unmarried, were living together which is why the children bore the names Prescott.  This puts Richard, as brother to Alice, correct on the 1871 census.

I have more to do working out Richard’s wife Alice Hayes? but at this point, I think Hannah Prescot at 6 Hulme Street in the 1871 census, was a Milner and the Elias is actually Alice.

For interest only, 1851 census:  Richard Heys age 40 and Alice Heys age 27 living in St Jude, Ancoats.  This would make Alice 39 at time of marriage.

Thanks heaps for this help.
