Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 Manchester census look up request

Firstly, thanks all for your input.  Here is a bit more info to help the cause.

1851 census:  Richard is age 23 living in Buckley Street with wife Bridget and parents George and Elizabeth.  Also, younger brother William, age 21.
I have all the documentation/certificates to know that parents Geo & Elizabeth and William died within 6 weeks of each other of the same disease.  This happened pre 1861.

1861 census:  Richard is age 32 living with wife Bridget and children.  Other siblings living next door.  This was in Store Street, Ancoats.
1862:  Bridget dies.     1863:  Richard age 35 marries Alice Hayes age 39.

(There is a Manchester Rate record of a Richard living at 8 Blossom St, Ancoats  (possibly him ??)

1871 census we are discussing:  Richard is age 42 which would be correct.  Who is the William?
Alice could be his sister age 36 but to my knowledge, unmarried.  The age of the Alice mentioned on the marriage in 1863 should be abt 47.

I have tried, tried and tried, to locate a marriage for Alice Hayes/Heyes/Heys, father Daniel and also tried to find a death of her spouse.  Unsuccessfully on all counts.  I'm starting to have dreams about this!!  When all else fails, turn to Rootschat!!

Thanks Jen, I will check out those you mentioned in Hulme Street and see where it leads.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1871 Manchester census look up request
« on: Thursday 09 May 19 00:44 BST (UK)  »
Can I please ask that someone help with this look up.

I’m trying to locate Richard Prescot(t), born 1828/9 on the 1871 census.  He lived most of his life in and near Ancoats.  Parents George and Elizabeth.  His (younger) brother William predeceased the 1871 census and I have his death certificate.

As a widower, he married widow Alice Hayes in 1863.  At the time of marriage he was living at 2 Hulme Street, Manchester.  The 1881 census has him at 18 Malpas Street, Manchester.

The only census record I can locate with those names appears to be of a 42 year old unmarried Richard, with older brother William and his wife Alice.  I believe the father of this William and Richard, was Richard.

Any help would be terrific, thanks.

Thanks all for your input.  As you say, perhaps someone will come along but for now, it remains in the too hard basket.

Oops.... the Scotland marriage I mentioned was someone else, sorry.  The 1894 marriage for Patrick and Anne is correct.

I have the marriage cert for Patrick and Anne in Scotland, 1881.  Interesting that it's registered in Ireland in 1894 on the irishgenealogy site.  The 1906 is Anne's correct death date.  I haven't yet, but will, check where she and Patrick are buried.

I have tried to contact the Magheralough cemetery through the email address, which is no longer operational, but don't know how best to contact them for some clarification as to past documentation procedures.  Interesting that there are many 'unknown' burials (I assume long long ago).  Not today one would suggest.

Could I order a death certificate for this particular James, without details, and be confident of obtaining the details?  I cannot do likewise for Charles as I only have his birth details.

Your thoughts please on how best to proceed.

cheers

Tyrone / Ledden family questions
« on: Thursday 21 March 19 22:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am struggling to find details on these folk and looking for fresh eyes.  Various spelling possibilities Ledden/Leddon/Ledin etc.  Roman Catholics.

James Leddon, buried Magheralough, Trillick in 1933.  Residence Moneygar.
1911 census, Dromore (Tyrone).
Is this the same James born in 1902 to parents Patrick Ledden and Anne McBride?

Charles John Ledden, born 1888 (illegitimate I believe).
1911 census, Trillick
Present at death of mother Margaret, Trillick, in 1937.
I'm aware of some Ledden family members who emigrated to the USA but uncertain about Charles.

I’ve tried geni.nidirect, ancestry, family search.

I feel I must be overlooking something simple but I’m not sure where to go from here to find answers, so hoping you can please point the way.

Thanks
