Gloucestershire / cheltenham orphages
« on: Monday 02 October 06 12:09 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know where I can get info - either online or via letter - about the Cheltenham Orphanages?  Two of my ancestors were sent there and appear on 1881 census, but I can find nothing about them after that.
Thanks, Kate

Can anyone supply info on Edward Morris b.1821 in Montgomeryshire?  I believe he was in Gloucestershire in 1861 and 71, but don't know about earlier censuses. His first wife was Martha b.1821, second was Margaret b.1830ish.  He died in 1878 in Barton Regis.
Thanks, Kathryn

Can anyone supply info on Edward Morris b.1821 in Kerry?  In 1861 and 71 he was in Gloucestershire, but I don't know when he moved. Was he still in Montgomeryshire in 41 and 51? His first wife was Martha, also b.1821.
Thanks, Kathryn

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / MORRIS/EMBREY 1851 and later
« on: Friday 08 September 06 11:54 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace relatives Martha and Margaret Embrey, b. 1821 and 1831. Martha probably born in Montgomeryshire, Margaret in Shropshire. Martha married Edward Morris (b. 1821, Montgomeryshire) but I don't where or when. I believe he later married Margaret (1871) and died in1878. I don't know if this was Margaret's first marriage or not.  I found a Margaret Morris in Gloucestershire in 1881, but her age is given as 10 years younger than it should be - may not be the one I'm looking for.
Can anyone help with these folk in the censuses of 1851 onwards? In 1841 they were in Shropshire and Margaret was still there in 1851.

Thanks, Kathryn

Radnorshire / fact or fiction??
« on: Friday 28 July 06 12:53 BST (UK)  »
An elderly uncle has told me that it was possible to gain ownership of land in Radnorshire if you could build a dwelling and have a fire burning in the hearth within one day. The only condition was that the house had to be above a certain elevation - hence the family home half way up a hillside.
Does anyone know if this has any basis in fact, or is it just a family myth?

Montgomeryshire Lookup Requests / all censuses: Embrey
« on: Thursday 06 July 06 17:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm looking for info on Charles Embrey b.1820 in Montgomeryshire.  I know he was in Shrewsbury in 1881, but nothing else.
Also, two Fanny Embreys: one b.1864 in Montgomeryshire, the other b.1869 in Chirbury.
The family were corn millers.
Thanks, Kathryn
