Flintshire Lookup Requests / Re: Help With a Birth Please
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 17:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Annie  - We have been in touch before regarding the Griffiths of Hope. When I last checked the Hope Baptisms I had made a note that there was also an Edward Griffiths baptised 24th July 1836 the son of Edward (wheelwright) and Mary of Hope Owen. This is probably the brother of your Mary.
Regards - Margaret.

Hello Paul -
On the 1861 Llandyrnog Census I have found John M. Williams, Age 30, Unmarried Farmer of 262 acres at Glanywern Farm.
Place of birth is Beaumaris, Anglesey.

Going back to 1851 Llandyrnog he is there as the son of William Williams , Age 58, born Llanfihangel and Mary Ann Age 48.

Hope this is the one you want.
Regards - Margaret

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Re: Treuddyn - Edward Griffith(s) - 1790
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 20:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Peter - Thanks for your reply.

In the 1851 Hope Census there are, with Edward and wife Elizabeth, two sons Thomas & Edward. Thomas is probably my gt gt grandfather and he resided at Saughall from 1861 onwards, at first as Griffith and later as Griffiths. At the time of his marriage (1871) one of the witnesses was a Harriet Griffiths.

On the 1861 Hope Census Edward (now Griffiths) lives still with wife Elizabeth and also a grandaughter Harriet Griffiths.

The name Thomas occurs again in the next generation together with John, Jane (which could come from the female line) also Frederick, Samuel & Arthur.  The name Thomas appears to be the best clue.

One of my main problems is that the 1841 Hope Census does not appear on Ancestry and so I cannot easily find the older children of Edward & Elizabeth. I am sending for the birth certificate of Harriet to establish her father's name.  I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to something like John !

Thanks again for your help.
Regards - Margaret

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Treuddyn - Edward Griffith(s) - 1790
« on: Tuesday 15 January 08 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to the Treuddyn PRs I should be grateful for info regarding Edward Griffith(s) born around 1788 to 1794.  If there is a record of baptism I may be able to find his parents names.
Thanks - Margaret

On the Ancestry British Army WW1 Service Records I have seen an entry for a Thomas Bennett of Brentwood, Buckley. The age is correct but I don't know if it is your Thomas. Have a look and see what you think.

Flintshire / Re: Isaiah Jones born Holywell c.1857

I have found him on the 1861 Census with his parents Thomas and Rachel at Whitford. His name is recorded as Esaue. In 1871 he is still with his parents in Stoke on Trent, with his name now recorded as Esay ! No wonder he is difficult to find.

By 1881 he is married with two children and lives next door to his parents in Cannock  and by 1901 he is still in Staffordshire with eight children at home.

Regards - Margaret.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Newitt ( or Newett)
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 14:42 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for this.
I have looked into this James Newitt as a possibility - but as he died in 1836 - this cannot be my relative. At least I now know that the area Thame is off my list.
Negative results are just as helpful to me because it narrows down the search.
Many thanks.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Newitt ( or Newett)
« on: Wednesday 24 October 07 20:22 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor James Newitt (Newett) born in Oxfordshire in 1787 according to the Census records of 1851 and 1861 when he was resident in Northampton.

I am trying to find which parish he could have been baptised in - and hopefully his parents names.

I know there were a lot of Newitts in the Thame area and also Duns Tew. If anyone could check these Parish Registers I should be very grateful.
