SO..with mind buzzing!!! Thanks to all you folks. Can we say that he was 'in theatre' from about March 1917? Obviously the same person but now we have the 9th Devons coming into the picture!

Thanks everyone. Am I safe in telling the family that he died because of an illness rather than wounds. Whichever way round it's ironic that, after all those years of conflict, he died aged 37, after it had finished!

I'm trying to find answers for an elderly family friend who is trying to understand how he died (after hostilities ended). I think that his service record was lost, as so many were, so I'm relying on fragments. My problem is understanding his likely whereabouts and identifying his Labour Corps unit. Buried at CWG Giavera del Montello cemetery, Italy, died 7 Dec 1918. Registers of soldiers effects confirm date of death and record him as '25652, 3rd Reserve battalion, Devonshire Regt, then tfrd, as 656444, 1034th Company Labour Corps. He is recorded as died '39 CCS France'. His medal card doesn't include the 14/15 star which confirms the Devons 3rd as being home served. I can't find 1034th Co. Labour Corps, nor such a service number!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your effort. Previous documents confirm the one I'm looking for, definitely from Selworthy, Somerset. All our family records confirm this. The family are still wondering what happened to his medals....Waterloo plus GSM! If they turn up please let me know! thanks again.

Hopefully attached discharge? Served 5 May 1806, discharge 1819 on reduction from 3RD Batt, R.A..
Born Selworthy , Somerset, 1784 (military record 1788). Wife Mary born outside Somerset (haven't found a likely record. Son Thomas bap. 23 July 1809 Colchester, daughter Mary bap. 25 June 1812 Weedon Bec, daughter Maria born 1818 Cambray, France (according to UK census but no record as yet). Family returned to Selworthy where he was employed as gardener to the Acland estate summer house. Wife Mary died Selworthy, he died with daughter Maria in Devon. Updating ...looking for Thomas Williams 1784 - 1854. I have a public tree 'Thomas Williams Waterloo Tree' on Ancestry.

I'm researching a soldier who served throughout the Napoleonic wars period. I've discovered quite a lot but I've hit the dreaded wall! If I can find any service records it may answer many questions that relate to his whereabouts. Unfortunately the attachment size limits me but there are questions about his marriage, childrens' locations of birth (Colchester, Weedon, Cambray). I've produced a synopsis of what I know so far and I can pm it. Many thanks, C
