Wiltshire / Lookup: CHARLOTTE GIBBS
« on: Thursday 03 September 20 02:41 BST (UK)  »
I have got to the last of my Gibbs family in England and am struggling to find the answers needed.

Charlotte Gibbs was born on 30 March 1817 in Bishopstone, Wiltshire, daughter of James Gibbs and Jane Hart/Hort. She had a daughter Mary Jane Emm Gibbs as a single woman, baptised on 26 February 1837 in Flamston Abode, Bishopstone. Mary was also referred as Mary Jane Toomer in other Baptism results. I am assuming that the Emm & Toomer names may indicate the possible father of Mary as there were those family names found in the area on the Indexes.

The only other result I could find for both of them was in the 1841 Wiltshire Census, where they were staying together with Charlotte's mother Jane, with Elizabeth & Harriett Case. Case family is connected to Gibbs family through Charlotte's brother John, who married Susanna Case and moved to Australia. Charlotte's mother died a few years later in 1847.

I have tried various options to find them but cannot be sure I have the right ones. I would like to know whether both of them married and when & where they died.

I hope someone will be able to shed some light on their movements since 1841

Wiltshire / Lookup BETTY GIBBS
« on: Wednesday 02 September 20 08:07 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the Death/Burial details for our Betty Gibbs baptised on 17 February 1803 in Bishopstone, Wiltshire.
I have her marrying a George Ball on 11 November 1927 at St. Edmunds, Salisbury, they had one son George James Ball in 1828 who died and was Buried 1 November 1832, Salisbury.
I have a George Ball died in 1846 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, (England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007), and a Betty Ball marrying a John White on 29 September 1847 at Fisherton Anger (Find My Past- English Marriages 1538-1973).
In 1851 Census for Alderbury, Parish: Fisherton Anger, Eccl. Parish: Whiteparish, found John White age 44, born Salisbury,  with Elizabeth White, age 48 and born in Bishopstone.
Knowing that Betty is also a variation of Elizabeth, she is also same age and from Bishopstone, I believe I have the right contacts. Every time I try to get the death or burial details for them, I keep getting "No Results Found". Hoping you can help

Australia / SYDNEY WILLIAM McCAULEY
« on: Saturday 22 August 20 13:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Hoping you can assist me with my current problem.
I live in Brisbane but from Canberra originally. I am putting together a Family History Book for the Gibbs from the Burra area near Queanbeyan. My mother was a Gibbs and her father was John Michael Gibbs (1873-1948).
My query relates to a Sydney William McCauley who was born in Qbn. in 1915 and died on 27 May 2006 in GULGONG, NSW. His father was Sydney Richard McCauley, mother Janet Marion Gibbs.
I have tried every available online index in NSW and ACT, and been unable to find when he married a Marjorie Jane Unknown and where married. I am looking for those facts together whether Marjorie died or remarried. I also checked Qld & Vic in case it was an interstate marriage.

In the Australian Electoral Rolls in 1937 & 1943, they lived in Thuralilly Street, Qbn. He was a Slaughterman. From 1949 to 1958, he was a labourer and they lived in 21 North Street, Orange, however in 1963, he was living at the same address alone.
His headstone in Gulgong indicated he had a family and could have been in the area for some time . Could not access  any later Electoral Rolls with him in them.
That is all I could find. Hoping you can assist.
Regards,

Wiltshire / GIBBS, in Warminster, Trowbridge & Bishopstone areas
« on: Tuesday 28 July 20 07:57 BST (UK)  »
I have been putting together our GIBBS family history that arrived in Australia in 1838 on the "Woodbridge" ship. I am reasonably satisfied with what I have discovered so far starting with John Gibbs (1806-1876) & Susanna Gibbs (Case) (1806-1871) who were on the ship with children James, Edward & Elizabeth. I do know from a copy of a bible that John had, that he is the son of James Gibbs (1777-1828) and Jane Hart (1778-1847) of Bishopstone.
I am looking to see if I can get your input as to whether I have correctly found the following earlier ancestors, as it was very hard to be sure when searching during the late 1600's and the 1700's.
I have searched many Parish Registers and found what I think is correct. What I have is the following;
(1)  James Gibbs (1777-1828) is the son of Daniel Gibbs (1744-1792) who married Ann Barnett
      (1746-1826) in Trowbridge on 25 December 1768.
(2)  Daniel Gibbs (1744-1792) was the son of John Gibbs (1713-1781) who married Mary Tucker
(about 1720- ?) on 17 November 1739 in Saint Denys, Warminster, Wiltshire, England
(3)  John Gibbs (1713-1781) was the son of John Gibbs (6 October 1682 - ?) who married Sarah
Nightingale (1688-1726) on 19 April 1710 in Saint Denys, Warminster, Wiltshire, England.

I haven't been able to get any further back at this stage. I intend to put together a Family History EBook for family members, and I want to be sure my details are correct or adjust them if you find  and can show me I took the wrong line.
I am hoping you can be of some assistance
Regards,
Peter

Australia / ALFRED FRANCIS MORROW
« on: Friday 22 March 19 13:17 GMT (UK)  »
i have been trying to find the results of a murder trial that was started in Dalby, Queensland on Friday June 14 1957. I have been searching Trove, but there are no papers available in that period, as they all stop in 1954.
I found the following article in the Chinchilla News:
"Chinchilla News,  Friday, June 14, 1957
"MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER
DALBY, Thursday - In the Dalby court of Petty Sessions today before Messrs. V. Haupt and J. Morgan, J.J.P. Alfred Francis Morrow (47, labourer) was charged that on June 12 at Jandowae he willfully murdered James Henry Wharram.
Morrow was remanded in custody until next Thursday, June 20.
Detective-Sergeant J. Hamilton said that on June 12 he saw the defendant at the Jandowae Police Station and heard a conversation in the presence of Constable Mckay.
"Defendant went with me and others to a property, "Glen Morrison", 18 miles from Jandowae, where I had a further conversation with the defendant.  Later the defendant went with me and other police officers to the Jandowae morgue.
"The defendant then came with me and constable McKay to the Dalby Police Station and at 7.30p.m. I arrested him and charge him with the present charge."
Detective Hamilton said that when charged, the defendant said, "Willful murder! Me, haw haw. I would not say it was willful murder."
Detective Hamilton said he would be giving evidence later."

Hoping someone may have some information on the case.

Could someone please make some improvement with this photograph so that I can include it in a Family History Book.
The photo would have been taken in the early 1900's in Hillston, a town in Western New South Wales in Australia.
I would like to get rid of the smokey appearance so that it is much clearer.
Hope someone can assist

Antrim / ROBERT WHITE
« on: Friday 07 July 17 04:57 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out how & when our Robert White come to Australia from Ireland, and I am hoping someone can help me..
What I know so far is;
He was 40 years old when he died in 1877 in Goulburn, NSW, making him born about 1837                   He was born in Belfast, Ireland, son of John White & Sarah Robinson.
He married Mary Jane Robinson in 1859 in Goulburn, NSW.                                                                 I have been told that he was about 17 years when he came to Australia (unconfirmed).
One story I was told was that he arrived in South Australia on the "Rajah" in 1849 from London & Plymouth and then travelled across to NSW (cannot confirm) There was a Robert White on the ship as a single male but no age shown, and in any case as he would have ony been about 12 years and there were no other "Whites" on the ship.
I have also checked all the Robert White's that arrived in NSW, shown on the State Archives between 1848 & 1864, and none fit into the age required.

My thoughts are that he would have travelled most likely from Ireland direct to Australia.       Hoping someone can shed some light.

New Zealand Completed Requests / FRANCIS WHITE
« on: Tuesday 14 February 17 04:56 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out what happened to our Francis White, who was born on 20 August 1867 in Towrang near Goulburn, NSW. The only family records show he went to New Zealand, but no details of when & where. I assume he may have travelled when aged about 20. He is the son of Robert John White and Mary Jane Robinson. When his mother died in 1919 in Goulburn, he was listed as living aged 52.
NZBDM doesn't show parents in their Death Index, and I have no way of identifying him if he married. I have tried Family Search for immigration details, but nothing seems to show up.

Hope someone can help.
