Looking at the word christened on the line below it starts and ends with the same letters, and the third letter looks like the m in September, so my guess is Come?d, I'm not sure what the squiggle between the e and d is meant to be, looks like another m but that wouldn't make sense.

Have you checked the 1851 census for him, I would imagine as a carpenter it's likely he would still have been working at his trade.

I think the last part of the address is Cowgate Dundee, the line above looks like it starts with Qua? possibly Quarry, I would agree that the name looks like McNamee.

If it's a mining area, could it be an abbreviation for a shale miner.

I would have thought that the word before 2.7.18 would have been the time that he left on that day, given that he returned at midnight on the 11.7.18 and was absent for 9 days and 2 1/2 hours this would have been around 9.30pm, but it doesn't look anything like that, not sure what the word is but it does look like two zeros at the end.

The jam and preserve manufacturers R&W Scott were one of the largest employers in Carluke, if your mother was living there in the 1930's it's possible that she may have worked there.

Try contacting the Carluke Parish Historical Society and see if they can help.

Lanarkshire / Re: Irregular Marriage at 79 Hutcheson Street, Glasgow

I had a look at the annual Post Office Glasgow Directories around that period, that address has a number of businesses listed, and they were mainly to do with tailoring.
Could this have been a place of work for any of the people being married and a just convenient location to hold the ceremony, but with another couple being married on the same day I would imagine this maybe unlikely, unless both couples knew each other and had arranged a double wedding.
It may be worth while having another look at the Glasgow Directories and see if there is anything I may have missed.

Lanarkshire / Re: What does a bolt screwer do?

I would think it more likely that she worked in a factory, sounds like it could be part of the process in the manufacturing of bolts, possibly on machine that cut the thread into the metal to make the bolt, maybe try some of the trade directories for the area around that date and see if they list any possible work places.
