World War One / Thankfull Village survivors.
« on: Thursday 18 November 10 21:56 GMT (UK)  »
I live in Woolley in Somerset, one of the so-called Thankfull Villages.  13 men from here served in WWI and all survived. Unfortunatley there's no-one left in the village who can remember all their names. Can anyone suggest how I can trace them?

Thank you
David

Lancashire / 1841 Census Challange - Thomas Pendlebury
« on: Saturday 25 September 10 21:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me find this family in the 1841 census.

Thomas Pendlebury was my g3-grandmother's brother. He and some of his family have the following MI at Westhoughton.
(courtesy of Westhoughton OPC)

Thomas Pendlebury died Jan 9 1848 aged 66 years
Susan his wife died Feb 25 1845 aged 52 years.
William their son died Nov 4 1840 aged 19 years.
Elizabeth their daughter died Sept 28 1846 aged 37? years

All but William were alive in 1841 but I can't find them in the census. I've tried every mispelling I can think of, but to no avail.

Thomas and Susan had several other children, mostly baptised at Westhoughton but there's a Thomas at Wigan in 1829 and a Martha in Manchester 1834.
The 4 deaths all seem to have been registered in the Manchester district, so it's most likely that's where they were living in 1841.

Two children I know were still alive at the time. Roger, born 1819, joined the army so he probably wasn't with the family in 1841. Esther, born c.1825, more likely was. In 1851 she's living on her own in Bright Street, Manchester. That would be a good place to look in 1841, but I can't find it then.

Thanks for your help.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Manchester Cathedral Baptism - Martha Pendlebury 1834
« on: Saturday 25 September 10 21:10 BST (UK)  »
The IGI gives this baptism
14 SEP 1834       Cathedral, Manchester     Martha Pendlebury    dau. of Thomas Pendlebury and Susan

The Thomas and Susan Pendlebury I'm interested in baptised several children in Westhoughton and Wigan in the 1820s but seem to have died in Manchester in the 1840s so this could be the same couple, although Susan would be over 40. I can't find them anywhere in the 1841 census so I'm hoping the full baptism record will give their address. I'd be very grateful if someone with access to the records could look it up.

Thanks

David

Hi,

I'm new to Rootschat and thought I'd try this Lookup section.
If SKS has access to the Westhoughton registers and a few moments to spare, I'd be very grateful if you could look for the burial of a James Hartley around 1801/1802. I don't know exactly when he died, but probate of his will was granted on 27 Aug 1802.

Thank you

David Hartley
