Argyllshire / Re: Campbell's and Sinclair's from Tyree/Tiree
« on: Tuesday 05 July 11 14:27 BST (UK)  »
I am researching my Campbell ancestor's from Tyree and would love to hear from anyone else researching these names in this area; also of interest is the surnames Sinclair, McPhaiden/ McFadgen and McLean from Tyree, Argyll.

Debbie

Hi Debbie !

Don't know if you're still following your posting..., as such, I won't go into too much detail about "McPhaiden/ McFadgen."   Especially when reading the follow-up messages with no mention of them !

Anyway, it's worth looking at http://keithdash.net    Also, don't forget the Tiree 1743 and 1747 Rent Rolls..., and the 1776 and 1779 census reports.  ;)

Kind Regards..., Iain.

Thanks Iain, I suspect she was richish but most likely was visiting someone who lived there as her address in the probate calender is in London - maybe Pucchini!! ;)

I assume the plaque is just indicating that Puccini died there? (my French is not even schoolboy level).  It's a rather grand looking building of what I assume are apartments?

Hi Bob and Helen !

I won't be able to help you much with the generations, nonetheless, if you need assistance concerning the translation of the French, don't hesitate to ask.  :)  Note:  If the origins of this family are Swiss, as you probably already know..., the political languages could be French, probably German or even Italian.

Thanks Stan !   This underlines what I said earlier.   If someone had the time, a site with name-changes could be like "Yesterday in Parliament;" very serious…, and a bundle of laughs.

I was trying not to mention that Iain!

Thanks Stan.   I've just sent an e-mail to http://www.sandwichtowncouncil.gov.uk/contact as they have a history/genealogical service..., in the hope that someone might be able to help. (although I doubt it !)

In fact, arriving at a brick wall over and beyond 1841, I'm now completing a personal family dossier for each household…, included, Google-Earth URL's of their houses. (even if the view is now simply a barren landscape)    Unfortunately, when introducing most of the names, Google of course have never heard of them.

I'll try your system…, and thanks again.

Later:   I've tried it Stan and found this !

Thanks Hibee, that's what I wanted to hear.   Now to develop that skill !  :)  If I only had more time on my hands I'd create a new website around that.
Have a nice day…, Iain.
