Argyllshire / Scottish Roots

Hi all…, I'm a newbie, only minutes old ! But I've been reading many posts here over the past few weeks to try to get a hold of the system. There is sooo much to read…, it'll take me years to get through it all ! As such…, I have taken the liberty of asking for a tiny bit of guidance.
But before I start, perhaps I should introduce myself. Encouraged to publish this post when Runner asked if the background music was Amazing Grace…, but like Fionnghal, I didn't get any sound ! All that in order to mention that I was a Pipe Sergeant in the Pipes and Drums of the Scots Guards for ten years. (many years ago !)
For the past 30 years I have been living in the French speaking South of Belgium and my "roots" recently seem to be calling me home…, especially when I stumbled over this URL showing my old school when I was a boy.
http://www.google.be/search?hl=fr&q=%22School+Board+of+South+Uist%2C+1909%22&meta=&aq=f&oq=
If by any chance I can help anyone in relation to Belgian research or even translating the French, don't hesitate to ask !
My Mother was born in Campbeltown and her name was Robina MacArthur Black. (note: my "roots" at the time pushed me to include MacArthur in my daughter's name…, and she did the same with her two sons > Tom MacArthur… and Arthur MacArthur… ) My Grandfather was called Malcolm Black, (died 24/06/43) and my Grandmother was called Mary Martin McCuag Rankin "Black." (died 06/06/64 and both were buried in the Kilkerran cemetery, Campbeltown) I don't even know her maiden name !
Try as I may…, I am unable to find any records relating to their life or deaths. I would like so much to delve into their family records and to find the origin of the name MacArthur. Can anyone tell me where to look ?
Thanks in advance…, Iain.
