Staffordshire / Stafford Road - Wolverhampton

Hi,

Would there be any way of findout out who owned the houses on the Stafford Road (particularly around 1900). My relatives were renting but I don't know who from or even if there are any records that still exist which would say who owned a given property.

Regards,

Mark

Northamptonshire / Preston Capes Wills
« on: Saturday 17 April 10 16:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone know where the information about the wills that are mentioned on the Preston Capes website is from? I have looked on the national archives sites and couldn't find the will of Edward Amos (made September 1773)

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to create a set of web pages from Family Tree Maker? I can't see any suitable options for doing so.

I would like to have a set of pages (one per family member) that I can put on a website so others can look at the tree and navigate through it.

Occupation Interests / Tailor Records Online
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 21:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find out more about one of my ancestors who came from Germany and was a tailor.

The first record I have is his marriage in Banbury 1859 where his name is Charles Mitcheall, age 29, occupation tailor

His son was born in Banbury in 1860 and his name is given as Charles Mitchell, occupation a tailor journeyman.

In the 1861 census living in Banbury his name is Charles Michael age 32 occupation tailor and birthplace Germany.

His daughter was born in Chiswick in 1862 and his name is given as Charles Mitchell, occupation tailor (master).

His son was born in Chiswick in 1864 and his name is given as Charles Mishell, occupation tailor (journeyman).

His son was born in Chiswick in 1866 and his name is given as Charles Mithell, occupation tailor (master).

His son was born in Chiswick in 1870 and his name is given as Karl Mithell, occupation taylor.

In the 1871 census living in Chiswick his name is Karl Mitchell age 42 occupation tailor and birthplace Germany, Birstein.

In the 1881 census living in Chiswick his name is Karl Mitchele age 53 occupation tailor and birthplace Germany. (The enumerator appears to have written BS by the side of this - I am guessing for British Subject)

He died in 1886 aged 62 named Carl Mitchell and occupation Tailor of Chiswick.

Are there any records of tailors on line or anything else that would give more information about him?
(It seems unusual for a tailor to come over from Germany and live in Banbury)

Any help much appreciated.

Armed Forces / 38th South Staffordshire Regiment
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 10:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I recently got a birth certificate for one of my relatives from 27 Jan 1900 and it says that his father (Thomas Harrisonwas a private in the 38th South Staffordshire Regiment. He was an iron worker when at the birth of his daughter in 4 Mar 1898 and also on the 1901 census so must have only been in the army for a few years at most.

Does anyone know any more about this regiment?

Regards,

Mark

Northamptonshire / Richard Lawrence - Byfield
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 16:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find more about the ancestors one of my relatives. His name was Richard Lawrence and he was born in Byfield in about 1815. By the time of the 1841 census he was married and living with his wife Hannah (nee Franklin).

There is an entry on the IGI for a Richard Lawrence christened in 12 FEB 1815 Byfield, Northampton, England with parents
Father: Thomas LAWRENCE
Mother: Lydia DEW
Marriages:
Spouse: Hannah

This all fits with what I know as on the marriage certificate Richard's father is given as Thomas (a Mason) but I am not sure if it is the correct person as Hannah's surname is not given. Surely if someone had seen the marriage entry they would have put it.

Can anyone confirm the baptism and were there any other Richard Lawrence born in Byfield around the same time?

Any help would be appreciated.

« on: Tuesday 23 March 10 11:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Has anyone had any luck in finding the grave locations at Merridale cemetery from the grave numbers given on the http://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/ site. I have tried emailing the bereavement services at the council but without any luck.
