Europe / German Ancestor
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 18:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have hit a brick wall trying to trace one of my ancestors who came from Germany.

The first reference I have found is his marriage in Banbury 1859 where his name is Charles Mitcheall, age 29, occupation tailor and father John Mitcheall a cook who was deceased.
In 1861

His son William Richard Mitchell was born in Banbury in 1860 and his name is given as Charles Mitchell, occupation a tailor journeyman.

In the 1861 census living in Banbury his name is Charles Michael age 32 occupation tailor and birthplace Germany.

His daughter Katie Bertha Mitchell was born in Chiswick in 1862 and his name is given as Charles Mitchell, occupation tailor (master).

His son Charles Lawrence Mishell was born in Chiswick in 1864 and his name is given as Charles Mishell, occupation tailor (journeyman).

His son Charles Lawrence Mithell was born in Chiswick in 1866 and his name is given as Charles Mithell, occupation tailor (master).

His son Richard Albert Mithell was born in Chiswick in 1870 and his name is given as Karl Mithell, occupation taylor.

In the 1871 census living in Chiswick his name is Karl Mitchell age 42 occupation tailor and birthplace Germany, Birstein.

In the 1881 census living in Chiswick his name is Karl Mitchele age 53 occupation tailor and birthplace Germany. (The enumerator appears to have written BS by the side of this - I am guessing for British Subject)

He died in 1886 aged 62 named Carl Mitchell and occupation Tailor of Chiswick.

I am puzzled as to when he would have come to the country, what his name was when born and how come a tailor appeared in Banbury rather than London. I have tried looking on the ancestry alien arrivals but haven't found anything I could be sure was him (the uncertainty of the name being the main problem).

If anyone is able to help it would be much appreciated.

Staffordshire / Harrison Family 1901 census
« on: Wednesday 17 March 10 12:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am having trouble trying to find my relatives on the 1901 census (I have found them on the 1911 census)

Thomas Harrison married Mary Jane Chinn on 30 Sep 1895.
They had a daughter Lilian born 4 Mar 1898 and a son Thomas born 27 Jan 1900. According to the 1911 census there is another child that was born to the marriage but had died before 1911. Given they had a son George Edward born 2 Aug 1901, I think that the missing child was born after 1901, but cannot be sure.

Thomas Harrison died on 2 Feb 1915 at the age of 51 (making his birth about 1864) and Mary Jane Chinn was born 8 Aug 1876.

The entry for the Lester family on Class: RG13; Piece: 2688; Folio: 113; Page: 17 is the closest I can find for them.

Warwickshire / Help - Marriage between Chinn and Morris
« on: Sunday 07 March 10 09:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for the details of when Frederick Arthur Chinn married Mary Morris. Both were born around the mid 1830s. Frederick Arthur Chinn was born in Atherstone and Mary Morris in Witherley (in Leicestershire).

I have tried looking in the BMD indices on Ancestry and FreeBMD but cannot find their marriage.

Their first child William Chinn was born in Walsall in December 1856 but they were living in Atherstone in the 1861

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mark
