World War One / John Evans, First Hereford Regiment
« on: Tuesday 31 August 10 12:12 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out any information regarding John Evans.  On the war memorial in Abbey Cwmhir Church (Radnorshire) it states that he died in the first world war and was serving in the First Herefordshire Regiment.

I have found him on the 1911 Census where it states that he was 25 and born in Church Stretton, Shropshire.  So he would have been born in 1886 (+/-1)

He married Alice Ann George on 13th April 1910 in Abbey Cwmhir Church (Radnorshire).  His fathers name was Thomas

I have asked everyone in the family but no one knows where he died or where he is buried.

Any help would be appreciated

Dear CarolW

I have now looked up John Evans on the 1911 Census:

George, Sarah, Head, Widow, F, 68, Charing and Washing, Radnor Abbey Cwmhir
Evans, John   Son-in-Law, Married, M, 25, Waggoner on Farm, Shropshire Church Stretton
Evans, Alice Ann, Daughter, Married, F, 31 - , Abbey Cwmhir Radnor
John Thomas Evans, Grandson, M, 3 months

You were right he was not born in Radnor but in Church Stretton, Shropshire.

Thanks CarolW

John Evans was 24 when his married.  He was working as a farm labourer at Cefn Pawl, Abbey Cwmhir and his father was Thomas Evans (no occupation given)

Alice Anne George was 29 and was living at Church House and her father was Thomas George, Gamekeeper.

The marriage was witnessed by Lucy Emily George.

I am looking for any information regarding John Evans who married Anne George on 13th April 1910 in St Mary's Church, Abbey Cwmhir.

I know some of Anne's family history but have not been able to find out anything about her husband John Evans.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Thank you so much for the jpegs.  Yes the information ties in nicely with my research (the only thing I had incorrect was the marriage date for Maurice Ormond and Anne (also did not know Anne's surname was Llewhellin).

I cannot connect the Jordan birth's with my John Jordan yet but hopefully when I receive his marriage certificate I will have his fathers name and can go forward from there.

Thanks once again for all your help.

I am hoping someone will be able to help me find out more about William Jordan who was born in 1823 in Llansamlet and his wife Gwenllian Jenkins who I believe was born in 1824.  They were married in 1842 in the parish of Cadoxton, Glamorgan.

Any information will be gratefully received.

Thank you Trish1120 and Orielbenfro for your research and help.

I have ordered John Jordan and Anne Ormond's marriage certificate so will hopefully be able to find out more about John's family.

Re Anne Elizabeth Ormond - her father was William Ormond who married Esther George on 23-11-1813 in Yerbeston (I believe both were born in Carew, Pembroke)  She was one of 9 children.

William Ormond's parents were Maurice Ormand and Ann ? who married in 1746 in Pembroke. (possibly Anne Llewhellin as mentioned in Orielbenfro's post)

Regards and thanks again
