Lancashire / Young family of Accrington
« on: Monday 17 January 11 15:52 GMT (UK)  »
Ellen Young was born in Gigleswick in 1826 and moved to Accrington sometime between 1851-1861. She had 6 children subsequent to the move ; Isabella b1857 Francis W b1859 John b 1861 Alfred & Mary b1863 and Francis H b 1866., all children have the surname Young. The census shows no male in the household and I am trying to establish who is the father(s) of her children. My great grandfather Henry Young was the illegitimate son of Ellen b 1851 when Ellen lived in Giggleswick and was left with grandparents when Ellen moved. Ellen died 12 Jan 1900 in Darwen. Has anyone researched this family tree, can you help with more information about the family?
thanks
Maggie B.

Lancashire / Show Bent Lancs
« on: Wednesday 22 December 10 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to establish if Thos Dawkin born abt 1810 is my great great grandfather. On the 1881 census (he is living in Sheffield occupation hawker) he gives his birth place as "Show Bent Lancs" but I can't find this village/town on the map. Does anyone know the location?  As yet, I have been unable to track him down on the census for any other year. Thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Giggleswick look up
« on: Saturday 17 July 10 16:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Could, Colin or anyone with access to Giggleswick parish records do a look up please? I have traced my family tree to Francis Young who married Ellin Harlin of Giggleswick on 2 nov 1788. Is there any record of Francis Young's birth and his parents? I think the Young family were an established family in the village.
Thanks
Maggie B

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / William Amos
« on: Saturday 17 July 10 15:56 BST (UK)  »
There is a William Amos' name appearing on the court list at General Quarter sessions of the Peace Lincoln on 1 July 1861, showing he was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for an offence of breaking and entering; I am trying to establish if this is my ancestor born abt 1827 in Grantham and occupation shown on 1851/1861 census as butcher. He disappears from the 1871 census with his wife and children but appears on the nottingham census 1871 living in lodgings, still working as a butcher. Does anyone have access to further info from the court records which might identify if the William Amos listed on the court records is my man? The family address in 1861 census was Wharfe Rd Spittlegate Grantham.
Thanks

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / John Amos of Grantham
« on: Friday 23 April 10 14:59 BST (UK)  »
I have traced my family tree back to John Amos born 1797 in Grantham; he was a butcher and died 2 July 1859 also in Grantham. The 1841 census gives the address as Watergate Grantham. Does anyone have access to parish records which might enable me to trace earlier relatives please?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Thomas Henry Dawkin
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 15:24 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the birth record of Thomas Henry Dawkin. He appears on census in1881 (Sutton on the Forest),1901 and 1911(Leeds) and gives his place of birth as Keighley W Riding of Yorks in 1862/66. He was married to Betty Webster in1887 in Sutton on Forest and died in June 1932 in Leeds. The marriage certificate gives his own father's name as Thomas Henry Dawkin deceased.
I cannot find him on a 1891 census (wife and children found in Sutton) but have found a Thos dawkin on the incoming passenger list of the Aurania from New York in May 1893, is this my Thomas Dawkin?
Can anyone help please?
