The "Wild Deer" sailed from Greenock to Otago (Dec 6th 1873 - Mar 9th 1874)
Mrs Catherine BOWMAN - and her daughters on board. I am guessing that husband Richard was already there and had applied for "guaranteed immigration" for his family and probably had to pay passage money - which must have been quite a lot for a large family. The family were Irish - not sure whether that makes a difference . And I think Richard worked on the railway (engine driver) so maybe the railway people encouraged immigration.
