South Africa / Lewis James Davies RE 21269
« on: Friday 12 November 10 01:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  :)

During the free access to military records on Anc*stry this week we found the record of Lewis J Davies of Royal Engineers. He lived at Fulham, England and enlisted as a Sapper at the age of 18 in 1900.

In 1904 he disappeared whilst serving at Simon's Town and then reappeared there around 1920 to confess to desertion. We assume he had been in South Africa while he was missing but is there any way that we can find out please? Would like to know what happened to him after 1904, and whether he stayed in South Africa or returned to England. Was desertion common at that time?

Many thanks for any help you can give

In 1901 he was at 1 Red Lion Sq, Cefn Mawr with his family and his brother Thomas (b1864) RG13 Piece 5218 Folio 82 Page 6

In 1891 his family were at 188 Chorley Road, Westhoughton, Lancs but no sign of Joseph and no recorded Head of household.

I would like to find him in 1871-91 and if possible his birth/christening at Hengoed.

Many thanks

Hello  :)

Has anyone found a good file/folder system for storing BMD Certificates please?
I think there must be products available in UK that will hold the various size certificates, and also meet the acid-free requirement. Perhaps some can be expanded to add new pages/pockets when your collection grows?  :-\

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / John Parry Cefn Mawr (Ruabon Parish)
« on: Thursday 14 October 10 00:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello :)

I have John Parry a 70 year old Quarry Man Free Stone in 1881 at 3 Bird in Hand Yd, Cefn Mawr. This census says born around 1911 in Ruabon Parish, and his wife Eliza born 1822 Bilston, Staffordshire. However, 1871 census has the birth places reversed! ::)

Please can someone trace them further back, possibly in Ruabon Parish records if possible?

Many thanks
