Renfrewshire / Sweeney/McMurray
« on: Friday 04 October 19 16:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,
I know George Sweeney Married Mary McMurray in County Fermanagh.  They move to Greenock and have more family, the last child being born in 1867.  When George died in 1874 he was a widow.  I cannot find a death for Mary anywhere, I have spent a bomb on Scotland’s People.

I was hoping by finding her death certificate it might tell me who her parents were.  Any help would be wonderful.

Cheers
Kathy

Inverness / Isle of Skye puzzle
« on: Monday 16 September 19 16:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have John Buchanan marrying Christy McDonald on the Isle of Skye in 1827 in Portree, John is given as living in Eskadial and Christy in Drunna or Drummie, I think I have found the places on a John Thompson 1824 map, but I cannot find the places or anything about them now.

Do these places still exist?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kathy

Family Bibles / Family Bible, Habel, Warmington, Butt Hassall, Scott, Bradfield
« on: Tuesday 30 April 19 14:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have recently bought a large A4 size very thick leather  Bible which has a partial family Register within it.

It was given to a Mrs Habel, from Miss Grant who lived in Connaught Square in London 1880/1881.

Miss Grant lived with her Brother Alexander Grant who was a retired surgeon Major in the British Army.

I would love to get this Bible back to a family member, I know I would have given my right arm for something like this had it been my family involved.

You must be prepared to pay postage and packing, But this Bible is very heavy and will cost a lot in postage.

I live in Leicestershire if you want to pick it up.  Must go to Family members only.

Thanks
Kathy

Canada / Ellen Mitchell
« on: Friday 17 August 18 21:44 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have Ellen Mitchell born Greenock Scotland on 22 Jan 1887, Ellen was also known as Helen and Nellie.

Ellen married an Abram Lyle in Greenock, but she later left him and moved to Canada sometime after 1907. I know Ellen was still alive in 1952 as she visited Greenock.  I believe she remarried, I do not know if she had more children.

I do not know what name she used in Canada, it could have been Mitchell or Lyle.

If someone could point me in the right direction I would be so grateful.

Thanks
Kathy

« on: Tuesday 31 July 18 14:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am new to Ancestry DNA, it says I have a second cousin, I have been in touch with him and he assures me that we have no joint ancestor?  I am well confused, it says 235 centi, 13 Dna segments what ever that means, could someone please point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Lanarkshire / Mitchell of Airdrie
« on: Tuesday 29 May 18 14:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have notice that on one of my ancestors birth cert the following
1858 Birth

Mother - Rose Ann Mitchell MS Dowds, Bridewell Airdrie
Father - James Mitchell Coal Miner
Registered by Ann Mitchell, Aunt

I have a sneaking suspicion that Bridewell is either a Prison or a very poor area of town.  I can trace Rose Ann and James after this, but I cannot find Ann Mitchell, Aunt anywhere.

I was trying to trace Ann as she is the only link I have with Rose Ann and James before they came to Scotland from Ireland around 1855

Thanks
Kathy

Hello,

I am researching George Donnelly born around June 1862 in Wellington Somerset.  All I know is that his father was also called George and by 1881 he was living in Liverpool.  Any help would be wonderful.

Many thanks
