Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: DNA percentages
« on: Saturday 02 January 16 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for that. I do realise that it is not an exact science but I really just wanted another view on the statistics. From my research into my paternal grandmothers family I am sure that there is a Jewish connection there but my late father was sure this wasn't the case although he had no evidence either way. However now I feel I can explore this trail with a little more hope of getting somewhere. Unfortunately I have no siblings so can't comlare their results.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA percentages
« on: Friday 01 January 16 16:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I've just received my dna results and I'm not sure what to read into the percentages. I'm 33% European Jewish but don't know what that means in terms of number of relatives. I know my paternal great grandparents were Jewish but would that be enough for 33% or would it be likely that there were other Jewish relations?
Would appreciate some thoughts on this.
Thanks mdb

Many thanks for this, it certainly gives me food for thought and would explain why I can't find the Dixon Hoyes name anywhere.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Mary Dixon Hoyes
« on: Thursday 09 October 14 11:29 BST (UK)  »
Not sure how this works but please, please would anyone be able to look up the marriage of George Pailing and Mary Dixon Hoyes which took place on 15th Sep 1819 at North  in the Notts extracted parish records for me. I am trying to trace the father of Mary with no luck so far. Any other info on the marriage would be useful too.
George Pailing is more usually recorded as Palin but I do think that the Pailing George is my ancestor.

Many thanks mdb

London and Middlesex / Brown cousins of Bethnal Green
« on: Saturday 12 January 13 14:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am searching for any descendants of these children of Augustine(Gustin) Brown b.1854
and Rosetta Lee b.1856
Gustin Brown b.1876
John Brown b.1881
Thomas Brown b.1883
William Brown b.1889
Charles Frederick Brown b.1900
Edward Brown b.1901
All were born in Bethnal Green.
Their younger sister Emily b.1992 was my grandmother and so far I have not been able to trace any of these siblings. There is an older sister Rosetta b. 1878 who I do have records for.
Thanks mdb

Dorset / Re: The Edgar Talbot mystery

Hi Marg
Thanks for that. Where did you find the school admission info as a matter of interest? I hadn't come across Annie before although the marriage of Edgar and Sarah Jane(Chick) did produce Annie Agnes, Minnie and Julia. Annie is the only one of these that I can trace at the moment. As you say I will research the children of Edgar in more depth - you never know!!!

Hi Jan

No, still no joy on the Rosetta birth. I've run out of ideas really as I've sent for so many certificates that were wrong and I don't know if the Lee is an Anglicisation of Levy her father's name which seems likely or that she married a Lee which seems unlikely or if she married someone else or if she wasn't married but Rosetta took her father's name - too many unknowns!!!

Hopefully one day I'll crack it. I think my next move will be to post on the London and Middlesex site and hope someone there will be able to help.

Hi everyone
Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mystery or at least part of it solved.
Ancestry has just released Dorset crew lists and the signature of an Edgar Talbot on 3 ships matches exactly the signature of the Edgar Talbot on The London Marriage and Banns to Hannah Lee. So I now know this is my Edgar Talbot.  What happened to his 1st wife and his missing 10 years on his age is still a mystery but I am thrilled to have got this far. My next mission is to find out if he is actually a blood relation or a step father to my g. grandmother.
