Thanks for the replies. It seems that Benjamin's parents are William and Susanna. There is a record of a William Bocock marrying a Susannah Oxley in 1799 and a further record in the 1841 census of a William and Ann Bocock. Ann could be shortened from Susannah. The other record of Hannah Bocock makes Martha her mother so this could also be John T's mother. I have since found a death for Martha Boacock in 1839 which could account for the workhouse. However there is a branch of the Bococks which are spelt Boacock so I'm hoping that the records I've got are for the right line of the family.
I don't know anything about the Tranfield name, it does seem highly likely it's a family name but I shall need to do more digging.
