Hi Carole
Thanks for the replies. It seems that Benjamin's parents are William and Susanna. There is a record of a William Bocock marrying a Susannah Oxley in 1799 and a further record in the 1841 census of a William and Ann Bocock. Ann could be shortened from Susannah. The other record of Hannah Bocock makes Martha her mother so this could also be John T's mother. I have since found a death for Martha Boacock in 1839 which could account for the workhouse. However there is a branch of the Bococks which are spelt Boacock so I'm hoping that the records I've got are for the right line of the family.
I don't know anything about the Tranfield name, it does seem highly likely it's a family name but I shall need to do more digging.

I am  looking for information about benjamin bocock born about 1800 probably in Kirton in Lindsay. In the 1841 census his address was Glandford Brigg Union workhouse with his son John Tranfield. He died there in 1842. I think his wife was Martha and his father a William Bocock but have no firm evidence to support either.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Marg and Jan
I agree that there can really be only 1 Edgar Talbot and he is father to both boys.
I have shortlisted a possible 5 births for Rosetta. I sent for the 2 most likely which were no good so sent off for the other 3 today - I shall need to re-mortgage soon!!! Also I can't find Hannah in 1881 anywhere but will keep on searching.

Hi to every one who has followed this post especially Marge and Jan
Just an update on the certificates I sent for. The divorce was not my Talbot so no help there.
James George's birth cert gives Hannah Lee as mother but there is no father registered although on Ancestry Talbot is given as his surname and Edgar Abraham his father.
Edgar Alfred's birth cert gives Hannah Talbot formerly Lee as mother and Edgar Talbot as father. This is a year before Edgar and Hannah were married!!
So although interesting it doesn't really help solve the mystery!!

Hi
Sounds like the same person - do you have any more info on him in your tree?

Hi
I'm sure there are synagogue records that I could look at. I need to find out how to access them. I'm not always sure that their births etc were recorded. I did find on Family Search, which I know isn't always accurate, a marriage for a Hannah Levy born 1821 with a father Moses to an Abraham Solomons at the Great Synagogue in 1851. I haven't got time at the moment to see where this trail might lead but will get onto it when I can.

Just spent the day trying to find records for Hannah and Rosetta without success apart from the 1841 and 1851 censuses and Rosettas marriage. The Catherine is her grandmother I'm sure, so many Jewish families changed their names to English equivalents but not always the same for each family member!! The other branch of my father's family are a prime example of this!! It's a good thought about James George, will search for birth records for him.
Thanks mdb

Hi Jan
I had found the 1851 family with Moses and Catherine and Hannah but not the other 2. Will def pursue that line and maybe find a birth cert for Rosetta as haven't found 1 so far.

Thanks mdb
