All the words that might/might not be 'student' have a little squiggle above them. What do'u think that means? Maybe someone with more knowledge will know!

Maybe it's 'servunt'?
Have you seen the will of Sir William Laxton Mayor of London 1544 on http://genforum.genealogy.com/laxton? It is very similar to this one - lots of black gowns! It even mentions John Machell, alderman and his wife.

  Eizabeth Carolle
  Lawrence Bostock.......
next person after Robert Bate - Austen Rick(s?)
one before William Robinson - William Clement

DO you think the strange word after them all could be something like student?

not sure which word you mean Bridget for 'month' - do you mean instead of moment,? Sorry , got it now. Yes, definitely could be month. WOuld make more sense.
Yep could be 'whom' - a weird spelling. I was thinking it definitely started with a 'w' (and the capital letter puts you off!)
How did you get 40 pounds (sorry, no pound sign on this keyboard!)? Is that what is stated as the estate to be disposed of? I can imagine the sign might be pounds, but the lli 40?

D'you think the word after  is "negligent in the performing that (not sure about this - not as clearly written as other 'that's) my will touching the disposition of the said...."? A bit of an odd word to use, but definitely a possibility.

Is there anything written previously before this snippet that gives a clue to 'the disposition of the said ****". Looks like ylli but obviously not! Even using the ampersand as 'per' it doesn't make sense - unless it's something like 'per 21' - a clause further up ?

yep! Got there about the same minute you did! Was going to change it before I saw you had replied. Looks more like 'performance' than 'performing'? I think the same reading applies to the two words further up - 'person' and 'persons' (prob personnes).

will keep going! love a challenge!!

Hi Baggie
Many thanks for looking for James Paton and Elizabeth. Unfortunately the family you found in the census is a different one (it's an Elizabeth Morrison, and the odd name is Glaud). Thanks anyway for trying.
Hope you have better luck with your searching next time. :P
