Hello Tanya
Thanks for the information. Now I can start tracing Harriets family properly. Strange why she dropped the S though

Best Regards

John

Hello Jan,l
Thanks for replying. For many years, based on information from my mother, I thought that William Clay and Elizabeth Clay were Harriet Marias parents. However I have never been able to locate her in their household.
So I've searched and found the entry for Harriets marriage to Charles Lowe and have just received the marriage certificate. It says that her father was in fact a Thomas Clay.
Now looking at the 1901 Census, I think I have found her but her surname is given as Clays. Could I please ask you to look at the 1891 and see how her surname is spelt.
Despite what you learned as you was growing up, you should not always take what your mother says to be the gospel truth. Even mothers are fallible

Regards

John

Harriet Mariah Clay was born in 1884/5. I have not been able to locate on the 1901 census either. She must not have been living with her parents
Tricia has located the right family but Harriet is not there

Could someone with access to the 1891 Census please look up Harriet Clay, my grandmother, who should be found living with her parents William and Elizabeth in the Cakemore area of Halesowen. I'm interested to know the names of any other siblings but most important is the birthplace of Elizabeth Clay.

Thanks in advance
