Hi Everyone , Ive become a little stumped on following a particular line, and was hoping for some thoughts from others. (My apologies in advance for the info overload!)

My x 4 Great Grandfather was Jonathan Bell born 1834 Kirkby Stephen Westmorland, England- later living in Durham. (Census Records have stated Westmorland and Durham as place of birth, and resided in Durham in later years)

I have a christening record, dating 1834 and parents as Jonathan and Ann Bell, in Kirkby Stephens, then also a marriage record for Jonathan and Ann Moss in Kirkby Stephens.

Now, the only 1851 Census I can find remotely similar (I have all up until 1861 where he is married and living with his wife) Has a Jonathan Bell, living with parents Jonathan and Ann. It states his birth in Durham, it is the only one I can find where the dates and parents names fit.
If I was to follow this line, it has his father Jonathan, Born in 1800, Workington,Cumberland, to this I can find further records on his christening info.
Though, if I were to try and match it up via parish records, I also find a Jonathan Bell born in Westmorland 1800.

I'm more inclined to go with the Kirkby Stephens Westmorland line, but the families did move around a bit in and around Cumberland and Westmorland... So Im not sure which would seem the most accurate. Also perhaps someone may have better luck finding a Jonathan Bell b 1834 Westmorland in the 1851 census?

Any Help or opinions would be greatly appreciated, I hope that the info has made sense, TIA :)

Thank you so much for that information and help.
It's cleared it all up for me as it does seem to be most likely correct :)

Thanks,
John Farnell is recorded as deceased on Williams Marriage Certificate in 1907. So I'm not sure that is correct? I will have a look into the Yorkshire area :)

Thanks everyone for your help in finding his correct parents :)
I can confirm now his parents were John Farnell and Lydia Howell. She was Lydia MORGAN when she married John as she was previously married for a brief time before remarrying to John in 1882 (West Brom)

The dilemma I have now, is that John and Lydia seem to disappear from records. Assuming that it is the correct Census in 1891 where the surname was possibly mis-splet as Parnell, I can't seem to find evidence of either of them after this - not even death records?
William was living with his Aunt and Uncle (William and Maria Massey) in 1901, along with a sister (transcribed as 'Esher' Farnell) Ive searched for records on her with no luck even as to a birth record (circa 1893) I've tried Esther and Ethel as alternatives.

A very mysterious family it seems with official records  ???

Hi,

I'm trying to find out a little more information on my Great Grandfather who was a Soldier in WW1.
His name is Frederick henry Gough, b 1889 Staffordshire.
I've have searched endlessly for military records, but have had no luck and I fear his service records were one of millions burnt.
I do however know that he served in Salonika, Greece, at least in 1918 thanks to a Newspaper article I found.
Does anyone know anything in regards to the British Army that were there at this time (Staffordshire regiments?) Or perhaps somewhere I could find out more information?

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi all,

I'm trying to find out a little further information on my Great Grandfather Frederick Henry Gough, (born 1889 in Staffordshire) who served in WW1
There are no records I can specifically find for his service, I do however know (thanks to a newspaper article) that he was a serving soldier in 1918 in Salonika. Does anyone know much about the British troops in Salonika around this time? It seems he has no service records that I can find on ancesty.com
Is there anywhere else possible I may be able to search online for more specific records?

Many thanks to any help in advance :)

Just had a look and it does seem to be the correct John! would be a bonus to find the parish marriage record to confirm it, but not having luck there! But  I think you are definitley right about it, thanks so much for your help :)
