My sources are Ancestry as well :)

Sturmerton doesn't exist but in the 1881 census, John puts his birthplace at Sturminster.

1881 Census: living in Corfe Mullen.
John Carter born about 1859 Sturminster (dairyman's assistant)
'Annah' Carter born about 1858 Tarrant Monkton.

Ancestry has pictures of Dorset baptisms, including John's.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know it was on microfilm. I live out in the country in Australia, and the nearest one that I can see (that has microfilm circulation privileges) is quite far from me :(

Thank you for that burial :)

Yep, that's them. Their 20th Sep 1880 marriage in Blandford puts her father as William Paul.

John Carter's father is Richard (also a labourer); there's a 4th July 1858 baptism in Sturminster Marshall for John s/o Richard and Jane Carter.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Thomas Mawson - 1741 Will Lookup Please?

Hi,

I hope it's okay to put this in another topic, it does filter on from http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=761167.0 on my ancestor Phoebe Morson from Cottingham area.

sugarbakers very kindly found a marriage & potential parents in Thomas and Phoebe Mawson/Mauson/occasionally-transcribed-Manson from Wilbarston. Unfortunately the BT's from 1712-1719 are missing, which is around the time my Phoebe was probably born.

However I've seen that Thomas has a will. I'm hoping if someone is heading to the NRO if they would be so kind as to please give the will a quick squiz to see if Phoebe is mentioned. I'd be eternally grateful! :) She has been a mystery for too long!

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Phoebe Morson - please help?

Damn. Do I presume these are my people then? :( And she was born in that gap. Going by UK naming conventions, Thomas and Phoebe are John and Phoebe's first children (John W had married & had children before).

Noticed on Ancestry some of these go by 'Manson'. Phoebe 'Manson' dies in 1733. Also a William Morson from Wilbarston marries Mary Hawkins in Tilton on the Hill in 1758. I wonder if he's another child of Thomas and Phoebe. Seems these Morsons didn't mind travelling for marriage!

Thank you so much for all your help in locating all these Morsons for me :)

Hmm, interesting there's a ten year gap there. Just searching Wilbarston parish registers on Google - this website (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maureenbryson/id76.htm) seems to say that BT's 1712-1719 are missing.

Thank you for looking at the baptisms! Shame they don't have earlier at the NRO.

I've tried looking at the whole of the UK -

Presumably just what is online! Rather than trawling through every parish record for every parish  :o :)

OK, maybe I should say every website I could think of ;) Ancestry, FindMyPast, TheGenealogist, FreeReg, FamilySearch... and I bought Alan Clarke's Northamptonshire birth and baptism index for 1700-1750 as well!

True Lizdb, she could've! I've tried looking at the whole of the UK - no Phoebe Morson anywhere. Argh! At least Northamptonshire is a starting point. I heard there was a town near Cottingham that a lot of Morsons came from...

sugarbakers - thank you for that marriage! Maybe that's her parents.
