here http://www.britishmedals.us/files/cavjl.htm it fits in with the dates we have

4412    Private    Kelly    T    14th Hussars

got the above from patrick at (*)  :P

lol but he is still trying to confirm it .

think I'm getting good at this :)

Ps I think I  got the blame for 2  2ND cousins  taking off to Australia  in their gap years for a year. Shame they didn't live near me after I had spent a month in S Africa Touring round all the place my grandfather  had been lol. may have got them intersted enough to do that also

guess I  must just have an insinted for it lol

I have also  found  my grandfathers  side of the family and he was one of 6 children  which was a suprise as i only knew of one brother.

who  went to live and work  in Australia  but was died there possible  when he was working on the railway there . But I do remember seeing pictures of cousins in Australia  when i was very young . just got to hope they turn up with one of the family . so i think I will have to start looking for my grandfathers siblings  under immigrants  after i find out if  his sisters married.

But it is all falling in to place now , granfather used to talk to me a lot about going to Australia , but because my granmothers mother was  still alive she  refused to go at the very last minute.

something  i think granddad always regretted as he  used to tell me tales of what our life would have been like if we lived in Australia.
Also  may be on of the reasons i wanted to immigrate there when i was 17 lol
got accepted at 18 but they found a tumour on my spine. which could have left me in a wheel chair for the rest of my life if it had not been found  then. I did get to go to Australia a year later , but this time with the family's blessing  lol

I wonder whether this could be Wilhemina and family in the 1891 census:

William Barclay 58, shoemaker b. St Fergus, Banffsh
Jessie Barclay 29 b. Gamrie, Banffsh
Williamina Barclay 7 b. Peterhead, Aberdeensh
Isabella Barclay 88, mother b. Lonmay, Aberdeensh

Address: Kinmundy Rd, Longside Aberdeen

Could fit with that 1940 death perhaps...

Thank you so much wow the family did grow :) now I have to try and find out which brother went  Australia  and I remember seeing pictures  as a very young child who were living in Australia . so it's possible  more of my granfathers brothers and sister  went there 2 . As I know my Grandfather  planned to go there but my grandmother refused at the  close to going because her mother was still alive.

I am thinking  that John Carson just may have been Elizabeths father  ?

yes that's the same box the medals were kept in thank you for the  help . I wish i could get the picture cleaned up but a cousin has the original and live in Manchester

I know my granfather was in Leeds and married my Grandmother 17th September 1913 so I am guessing he was home on leave at that time ? but not sure if he could have been stationed in Leeds or not.

My Grandmother  Williamina was from Peterhead and He was born in Bellshill  so this marriage in  Leeds is a bit confusing.

does anyone know where i could get this photograph cleaned up at all ? please so it is clearer
