Irish Language / Cuidiú - cause of death
« on: Sunday 11 September 16 18:27 BST (UK)  »
Ba mhaith liom buíochas cabhrú le do thoil!

The attached death record is in Irish and I would like a second opinion on the cause of death please.

Edward Augustine Curley died July 13 1924 - LINK; see record 18 / row 2

I think it translates as:
Heart failure I think / He died suddenly/ No doctor was present

Go raibh maith agaibh

Ireland / FindMyPast incorrect matches for marriages
« on: Wednesday 07 September 16 09:09 BST (UK)  »
A warning!

In searching on some sites for marriages you are shown all the matches on the page found
This may be annoying as you have to work out the couple but at least it is accurate information!

I recently searched for an Irish marriage on FindMyPast and in good faith accepted the one match it gave
On purchasing the record I found that the match was incorrect
The GRO told me the second name was on the same page but was not the spouse!

It answered why I didn't find children to the couple but it wasted an amount of time searching

I am now doubting some results that I did not invest in certificates for  >:(

This article was in today's paper and caught my eye - LINK & on RTE
Maybe RCers could help?!

There has obviously been some research done and from what I can see

His parents were Michael McLOUGHLIN and Bridget RYAN from his birth record

I believe that their marriage took place on Feb 10 1867 in Kilcummin RC Church
Micheal being shown as McLOUGHNY of Foilnadanagh; father Patrick
Bridget RYAN of Riesk; father Matthew
Witnesses Thomas MALLOUGHNY & Mary RYAN
Civil District: Borrisoleigh, Co. Tipperary
But these are common names and subject to further proof

The fourteen children were (as I can find)
1.   Hanora b. May 14 1871
2.   John b. Aug 20 1872
3.   Mary b. 1874
4.   Bridget (1) b. 1875 d. 1875
5.   Bridget (2) b. 1876
6.   Patrick (1) b. 1877 d. 1878
7.   Matthew b. Mar 17 1879 (shown as McGLOUGHLIN on civil records)
8.   Patrick (2) b. 1880
9.   Michael b. 1882
10.   William b. 1883
11.   Johanna b. Aug 15 1884
12.   Margaret b. 1886
13.   Catherine (Kate) b. Jun 08 1887
14.   Ellen b. 1890

1901 Census
Possible for brother William LINK
Possible for sister Maggie

1911 Census
Possible for Mother, Patrick and Ellen LINK

Letter to his mother after his death about her letters to him

There are many possibilities for the family marrying but without actual certificates could be difficult to prove however some one here may be able to find out more!

This Link includes the reason for the search; the UK Specialist Protection Squad now intends to honour Detective Sergeant Matthew McLoughlin, by naming their new Offices after him, when they move from their current premises at Scotland Yard, later this year.

Kildare / Parade
« on: Tuesday 29 March 16 18:16 BST (UK)  »
I have no idea why a group of men would parade through Naas town centre suited carrying hurley sticks but I recognise John Mannion  He's the tallest on the left, third from the front with the tussled hair

If anyone could help shed some light on this picture I would be very grateful - Thank you

The Lighter Side / Thank you to all those who have asked for help
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
On another forum I read a very interesting comment from Guy Etchells LINK that prompted me to write this.

Thank you sincerely to those of you who have allowed me into your family trees to research.
Every brick wall I have met in my own tree has disillusioned me but I have found renewed encouragement when I uncover some piece of information that someone else is looking for.

Thank you for the eye opening introductions to spellings (most recently Cristifore I would never have thought of!); the sharing of where you've looked and failed; what's free out there and what's not such good value; in fact for all I've learned in the searching.

So sincerely to all those of you who asked for help - thank you for the experience I gained looking for you and to all those who have helped me, thank you for the information, guidance and time taken.

It's not happy people who are thankful; it is thankful people who are happy!   ;D

Dublin / Dublin Foundling 1902
« on: Wednesday 27 May 15 16:14 BST (UK)  »
While searching for something else entirely, I came across this piece of information in a Dublin Workhouse Register, that took my interest – see file attached

Can anyone decipher the writing highlighted please?

Baptism of Joseph CLARENDON 1902
Foundling – Sponsor Bridget CLINTON

Joseph CLARENDON died aged 0 Dublin South 1902 Apr-Jun Q2 V2 P510

Bridget CLINTON (Senior and Junior) of 38.1 Temple Bar on 1901 Census

Bridget CLINTON (Senior) on 1911 census still at same address

It is more difficult to place Fanny CARROLL but someone researching Bridget or Fanny may find this of interest
