I was afraid that that might be the answer not attempted to do much recently but must now look at several wills because i now have john and alice died 1538 john and widow alice married 1566 ? john and alice marrying 1596 in boughton aluph i am sure that ones right.

on the marriage licence it states william beney blacksmith boughton aluph ba martha scott wdw chilham if he was a blacksmith in b aluph you would think he would go back to a smithy if it was his.
however there are no children baptised in b aluph but a john born 1710 in chilham.
Have you thought about apprentice indentures. that may give information, beney appears to be acommon name in france.

where did you find the marriage record i have looked on f m p and the period covering 1702 for st margarets is not there have searched some other records with no luck i could not find a canterbury marriage licence either.
