Hi Lady Di,

I see him at Nocundra on the 1901 Qld State Roll, he qualified by residence on 3rd June 1901 which probably indicates that he had not been at that property for very long.

At least you found him in 1901 and again in the 1920s and you also have the correct death certificate and his final resting place which are good wins.

As you say has was most likely on the go laboring, fencing, fixing windmills etc between those years in Western and North Queensland.

As the informant, I am amazed how much the Matron knew of Thomas.

Good luck with further research on Thomas.

Hi,

Just for interest Thomas Alexander NICHOLSON was on the 1922 Queensland State Electoral Roll as a laborer at Fort Constantine (Division of Kennedy, Sub-Division of Cloncurry)

The Queensland State Archives hold annotated Queensland State Electoral Rolls by working backwards through the rolls from 1922 one could possibly find when Thomas arrived in Cloncurry and that roll might be annotated with his previous Division/Sub-Division.

I have done this in the past to find my lot in the past who moved around North Queensland.

Hi Boston Jack,

Thanks for the message and details that Honora had married Dennis Collins, I haven't as yet followed up on the Hayes children who migrated to the US I have concentrated on those that came to Victoria, but I will get onto the US connections soon I hope.

Nice to see that your 2nd GGM was also Bridget Quigley.  I have been researching the Victorian connections for a little while now and I do have a copy of the Death Certificate for Bridget (11th Oct 1877 at Stawell in Victoria) and the informant whom was her son, Edward Hayes also of Stawell lists Honora, 40 years as one of the living children.

My Hayes connection is through Catherine who had married Adam Edward Young  but sadly she died at a young age in 1870 leaving Adam and two children, Adam was a blacksmith at Smythesdale in Victoria and had been born at Coldsteam in Scotland.

If you need any information about Honora's sibling in Victoria I might be able to help out.

Once again, thanks for the contact.

Hi, Cant help you much with any vital information but looks like Jacob was at the Eventide Aged Care Facility when he died in 1936 and that is how he ended up on the 1936 Commonwealth Electoral Roll.  He may have been residing in Charters Towers earlier but had not enrolled previous to moving to Eventide.

Eventide, I understand still exists today so maybe they might have kept records from that era or passed them onto the Qld State Archives.

Just for interest my GGF was also born at Smythesdale (1864) and died at Charters Towers in 1902.

The 1931 Parish Map of Formantine does show A. G. Stevens but I have found in the past that many Parish Maps still have person's names on blocks etc even though they had disposed of the land years earlier.

Hi,

We have a positive ID on Alfred George Stevens on the Queensland State Electoral Roll in 1905 residing at Chillagoe as a Clerk but nothing 100% after that.

The Queensland State Archives have annotated State Electoral Rolls and these annotations were entered by the Electoral Office Clerks would show why an elector failed to vote including, death, moved to a new electorate, change of name etc.

It would be a lengthy process (and I have done it finding my lot) but if someone could check each State Roll after 1905 to follow Alfred and see if there was an annotation against his name that might give a clue to his movements and what year.
